Dogs are considered by many families as very important family members. However, some people don’t know some of the foods that they are feeding their dogs can be dangerous. I’ve outlined below some of the foods that you should never feed your dog in order to keep them safe and a part of your family for years to come.
One of the items that lots of people give to their dogs is milk. Although when puppies are nursing they can have milk from the mother you should not give milk to a dog. The lactose level in a dog is very low and by giving them milk the dog may have diarrhea.
Just like humans you don’t want to feed your dog raw or uncooked meat. There could be parasites in these meats and your dog may even develop food poisoning from these meats. One meat to avoid completely is chicken if it contains bones. Although dogs love to eat chicken they will also eat the bones which can cause problems. A bone could be lodged in the throat, stomach, or intestines of a dog and possibly puncture it causing internal bleeding.
Avoid chocolate, caffeine, or anything that contains methylxanthines. This substance can cause all sorts of problems in dogs and it can also be fatal. Think twice before you give your dog a piece of chocolate candy or else you could end up losing them. Darker chocolates are worse than lighter chocolates as well.
Another item that many people don’t seem to know about is alcohol. Giving your pet alcohol is bad for them much like consuming too much is bad for a human. For a dog however it’s not a night on the town with friends and such. It can cause a dog to have diarrhea, vomiting, seizures, and even death. Some may think it’s cool to have a beer with their pet but it’s not worth what they will go through if you do.
There are lots of other foods that can cause problems in pets and if you’re not aware of them you can be putting your pet at risk. Try to feed them dog food that was made for their breed and size and give them treats occasionally just to break the monotony of one type of food all the time.
