If you want to slim down healthily, you should never ever do crash diets or exercise strenuously. Our bodies adapt to slow changes in aspects of food and exercise. So if you want to slim down, what should you do?
1) REDUCE CALORIE INTAKE
Food such as chocolates, potatoes, cakes, junk food and snacks have relatively high in calories. Such food requires higher activity levels to burn them, or else they will be stored in the form of fat. The rule of thumb to slim down is to eat less, or make a healthier choice. Cut down on fatty food and eat more wholegrain breads, fruits and vegetables.
Bear in mind that you should eat good carbs such as brown rice. Avoid white food such as white bread and fried food. Little do you know that they actually have higher calorific values.
Instead of eating 3 meals a day, you can choose to eat only when you are hungry. But if you are a working person or due to other factors, you can stick to the original plan.
If you feel snacking for some desserts, you can choose to eat fruits or some low-cal food.
2) EXERCISE REGULARLY
Some people can cut down their calories and portion sizes so easily and eventually, they tend to forget about the importance of exercise.
Once per day or two days will be the best choice when it comes to exercise. Or you can exercise three times per week. Each time takes not more than 30 minutes. The reason is our body takes time to deplete the fat (known as glycogen) stores in a fat-burning situation. Thus, if you exercise for less than 30 minutes, it actually doesn’t help much on burning your fat.
Exercise on a regular basis helps to burn the excessive fat that is stored under your skin. Continuous exercise, on the other hand, helps you to build muscle and look fit.
One bit of advice from me, try to do cardio exercise early in the morning after you wake up, as you have no food in your system all night, your body therefore gets energy from the fat.
3) PRACTICE HEALTHY LIFESTYLE
In this faster-than-sound age, we have plenty of unhealthy lifestyles which maybe we do not realize at all. You will see a few being focused below.
Do not smoke and drink any alcoholic products. If this is not possible, then reduce them. Do not consume an unbalance diets (does not follow food pyramid). And always reduce the intake of fizzy drinks, or better still, replace them with water (which has a calorific value = 0!).
And never ever starve yourself by skipping a breakfast, or any meals to lose weight! Irregular eating habits also pose threats to your body metabolism, which is an extremely important process to lose weight.
Another good way to slim down is to avoid eating anything 3 hours before you sleep. Last but not least, sleep for 7-8 hours a day to boost your body metabolism.
4) FIND A FRIEND OR TUTOR
Find a friend who has the same target as yours – which is to slim down. Both of you (or maybe more) can inspire and motivate each other at all times. When one is getting lazy or demotivated , the other one will be able to give him or her a helping hand.
You can even guide your friends when he or she is too exhausted to move on by giving some practical tips that you have. Record down each other’s progress in order to boost both of your spirits of slimming down. Share with each other too from time to time on your short-term as well as long-term targets.
If you have the opportunity, you can, of course, find a fitness tutor to supervise and monitor your progress. You can find some websites which also offer such services. Do remember to do some research before you participate in any online fitness packages to make sure that they are practical.
5) BE PERSISTENT
Undoubtedly, keeping your motivation is the most difficult aspect in slimming down. It might take a few weeks, or even months before you observe some significant changes. Thus, you need to stick to your plans. Do not give up easily as you do not see the progress immediately. Always remember that Rome was not built in a day, as so is your fat. It, of course, takes time to burn them out. Remember, there is no shortcut to slim down in a healthy and reasonable way.
There will no surprise if there are days when you do not eat as healthily as what you’ve planned, weeks when you may not lose any weights, or even maybe, months when you stop practicing all these.
Do not worry, it’s normal! Do not let them to undo your plans for a future, slimmer you. Positive changes will appear steadily if you are really doing a serious job.
