The city of Grand Prairie, Texas, is conveniently located between Dallas and Ft. Worth. It’s not frequented by as many tourists as its surrounding cities, but it’s full of friendly people and interesting or unique things to do.
Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie:
This quarter horse and thorough bred race track is located just off Interstate 30. Thoroughbred season is from April through July and are typically scheduled every Thursday through Sunday. The facilities include six levels of seating and sports bar and casual dining areas. The convenient thing about this location is that directly across the parking lot from the race track is an Alliance Skate Park where older children can spend the afternoon working off some energy and showing off their skills on advanced, intermediate, and beginner courses for in-line skating, biking and skateboarding.
Ripley’s Believe it or Not/Louis Tussaud’s Palace of Wax:
This unique attraction, located off Interstate 30, is actually four interesting attractions under one roof. Tickets can be purchased for one attraction, or a combination of attractions including a wax museum, an Odditorium, a maze of over 100 mirrors, and a timed laser maze. A family could literally spend a whole day ”getting lost” in these attractions. A gift shop and concessions are available.
Traders Village, the World’s Largest Flea Market:
Spend the day outdoors at this flea market where you never know what you might find with over 3000 vendors every weekend selling everything from produce to pets, furniture to clothing. Purchase tickets for family friendly carnival rides or a bracelet for unlimited rides all day. Services include concessions and an RV park. Check the Traders Village website for a schedule of other events including: chili cook off, barbeque cook off, and Indian pow-wow. http://tradersvillage.com/
Grand Prairie Premium Outlets:
This outlet mall, located off of Interstate 20 and Great Southwest Parkway, offers upscale shopping at outlet prices. Everything from house wares and home furnishings to children’s clothing can be found in one location.
Lynn Creek Marina:
The unique thing about this marina is the hundreds of large carp that gather at the shore with their mouths open, hoping for some fish food or day old bread. There is a restaurant, convenience store, boat and jet ski rentals, swimming pool, driving range, and putt-putt.
