Ever since THQ sold its rights to WWE games to Take Two Interactive, many fans of WWE games became hopeful that 2K would finally make some big changes that many wrestling game fans were demanding but never received. When WWE 2K14 was announced, 2K had little involvement in the production of the game as they didn’t receive the license until only a few months before the game came out, but this year 2K looks to bring us a much improved game. NBA 2K games have been very enticing in the last few years, and here’s what WWE 2K15 needs to be as good as them.
WWE games haven’t been bad in terms of visuals, but compared to NBA games, they could do a lot better, and we should expect them to since they are using the facial and body scanning, as reported by 2K developers.
One of THQ’s biggest downfalls in its production of WWE games was the repetitive and sometimes even illogical commentary. This is something that is sure to improve as commentary has always been great in NBA 2K games. 2K has already recorded 35 hours of commentary with Jerry “The King” Lawler and Michael Cole, so commentary improvements is something that is already confirmed for the game, and something that it desperately needed. We don’t have to worry about Michael Cole marking out about a clothesline than talking about something off topic when someone goes through a flaming table.
Most wrestling game fans don’t even bring this up because it’s been so long that WWE has had a good soundtrack for its game. The soundtrack for Smackdown vs. Raw 2010 was great, but after that year, WWE pretty much only used the WWE theme songs of the superstars and divas as the soundtrack, which could get quite annoying overtime since we already hear those themes during entrances and during the actual WWE shows. 2K has always had great soundtracks with its NBA games, so let’s hope that they can do the same with WWE 2K15.
Anyone who’s put hour into playing WWE Universe Mode in the past WWE games knows how predictable the cut scenes are. In the next WWE game, we want to see more title celebration animations and other WWE Universe cut scenes, instead of the same old “bitter man attacks his opponent after he loses his match” cut scene.
One thing that WWE games always struggled with was making AIs smart enough to make matches seem more realistic gameplay. In past WWE games, they’ve made AIs more capable of doing more reversals, but that doesn’t make them smarter, it just makes them more difficult. WWE game fans want to face AIs that function as if they were facing a buddy on a second controller. 2K said that WWE 2K15 will have more realistic gameplay, so hopefully that means a change in the AIs gameplay function.
