This afternoon, I was lucky enough to attend my first James Durban concert. Although my first music choice is usually country, after watching American Idol, I fell in love. He is very talented and can sing anything! He had some very positive things to say, so here some things I have learned from watching him.
1. It’s Okay to be Different
For those of you that didn’t watch the 10th season of American Idol, he has Tourette’s as well as Asperger’s Syndrome. Even though he grew up being bullied in school, here he is as a top performer on an amazing TV Show chasing his dreams. So many people know about his differences, yet they still love him and the music he creates.
2. Go For It
He chased his dreams. Instead of saying it’s never going to happen, or there’s no way, he saw a chance and took it. He now has two records out and is living his dream of being a rock star.
3. Hard Work and Determination Really Do Pay Off
Where he is today, did not happen from not putting in any effort. Being a rock star is a lot of work. You have to sing in all the right keys, hit all the right notes, sing in tune, all at the same time as entertaining a crowd of people. There are also rehearsals and other things that you must attend. After all of his hard work and his determination to be a singer, he now has a recording contract.
4. Don’t Focus on the Negative
Today at the concert, he mentioned not to focus on negative things in your life. Don’t focus on all the bills you have to pay, if you hate your job, or what’s going wrong in your life, and instead bring your focus on other things.
5. Focus on the Positive
His main message today was to focus on all the things going right in your life. If you can do that, then your life will change for the better and you will begin to see things in a new light. Doing this will really make a difference in your life.
