History was made at Wrestlemania 30 when Brock Lesnar ended the most legendary streak in WWE history. The Undertaker had never lost at Wrestlemania and after a twenty-five minute match, the streak came to a halt.
I hate to see the streak end. Even more so I hate to see it end the way it did. These are five reasons why I believe this was a bad idea.
Lesnar Has No Wrestling Future
Brock Lesnar is 36-years-old. He wrestles part-time and when his wrestling career is officially over he will not be among the elites. Lesnar missed his opportunity to become a true wrestling legend when he walked away from the company too early in his career in hopes of becoming a football player.
The Undertaker Loses His Stature
Instead of making us think of The Undertaker as the one guy no one was ever able to beat at Wrestlemania we will think of him as the guy who used to be thought of that way. Other superstars on the same level as him have the championship runs to make them stand out. As talented as he is, The Undertaker never had a run with the title belt that stood out. The Undertaker’s crown jewel was his undefeated steak and now it’s over.
The Match Was Not Highly-Anticipated
The feud between The Undertaker and Brock Lesnar leading up to their match at Wrestlemania was like any of the other ones in recent history The Undertaker has had. A challenge was issued and since he had nothing else to do, The Undertaker accepted. For something as historic as this to occur it should have been a buildup for more than five weeks.
Other Wrestlers Deserved the Win
There are many other wrestlers, maybe even ones not currently in the WWE, who could have benefited far greater from ending the streak. Someone like Sheamus, an established star who still needs a memorable moment, or an upcoming wrestler like Bray Wyatt would have gained a lot from the victory. It would be the perfect way to create heat and accolades for an entire career
The Night Was Stolen From Daniel Bryan
Wrestlemania 30 was supposed to be the night where Daniel Bryan defied the odds and finally won the WWE Title back after months of pursuing. Instead the night will be remembered best for one old guy beating an even older one. Conspiracy theorists might go deeper into this being planned out. Bryan did manage to win the title as predicted, but fans walked away from the event talking more about how shocked they were when The Undertaker finally lost on the biggest wrestling stage of them all.
