Why Fourth of July?

Fourth of July is an important date in the American history. On this day, a nation was born, United States of America. In July fourth 1776, America emancipated itself from the British colonization. But there are also other interesting facts about the day, lets look at some of these trivia and interesting facts.

Historical Deaths.

As much as we celebrated the birth of a new nation on this date, we also mark the deaths of three important historical figures in the history of America. We all know Thomas Jefferson and John Adams, although very fierce rivals, died on the same day. They both died on July fourth in 1826.The other one was John Monroe who was the fifth president of the United States of America. From history, you will remember that John Adams and Thomas Jefferson played a leading role in creation of this nation.

Liberty Bell.

On July fourth every year during the commemoration of independence. The liberty bell which is in Philadelphia is tapped thirteen times. Before independence, there were as total of thirteen colonies. The tapping of the bell thirteen times signifies remembrance of all these thirteen colonies.

Population.

The population of the United States of America during the day of independence, according to government records stood at roughly two million people. his year when we will be celebrating two hundred and thirty eight years since independence, the population of the united states stands at roughly three hundred and thirteen million people. It is difficult to imagine, how such a big country could only house two point five million people. We have really come along way!

A Young Nation.

America was indeed a young nation during the ratification of independence. The average age of all the people who were involve in signing was forty five years during this day. The oldest person who signed the documents was seventy years. Benjamin Franklin was the oldest and Thomas Lynch was the youngest at twenty seven years.

Salute to the Union

Did you know that a one gun salute is normally fired at noon in any capable military base at noon on this day? Now you know. The single gun salute is referred to “salute to the union”. Union here is the unity of the different states.
