Organization is the key to being productive. At times, it seems overwhelming to attempt to stay organized. With such busy lives who has the time to maintain organization? Well, with five easy steps you can get and stay organized!
1. Don’t be afraid to throw things away
The first step to getting organized is to de-clutter. If you need it keep it, if not do not be afraid to throw it away. We must first clean out the mess before we can create a workable system.
2. Write It Down
Making lists is a great tool. This clears our head of future projects and allows us to put things in order. Having a visual aid will keep you from getting overwhelmed. It will give you more direction when you go about completing tasks.
3. Set Goals
What would you like to accomplish through organizing your life? More control, the completion of more tasks or just a cleaner home. Either way set goals for yourself. Attain the tools you will need, such as storage containers and office supplies. Know what you would like to do and how you intend to do it. These goals will allow you to stay focused on the tasks ahead.
4. Avoid distractions
Avoiding distraction does not mean never having a good time. Take a night off, enjoy yourself. Although when you are getting organized do your best to stay in the right frame of mind. Section off a block of time where you can just clean, clear and reestablish.
5. Reward progress
All work and no play will make you a very dull person. The way to avoid this problem is to reward progress. When you finish a task instead of jumping into the next project take a moment to enjoy the benefits of your labor. If you rob yourself of this experience then you have no reason to continue. We are creatures of gratification, if it does not feel good than we do not want to do it. Reward yourself to stay motivated!
