I love camping; one can learn so much from using certain products and doing things differently. One thing I learned is using folding barbeques and stoves for easy transport and efficient space utilization. I’d like to share the ones I have used and like the best with you.
These folding stoves and barbeques can be used just about anywhere such as the patio, camping, RV’ing and for disaster preparedness. Their compactness allows them to be a great asset to any bug-out bag. They’re affordable and easy to use. Find them at a few big box stores, sporting goods stores or online.
The SE Folding Barbeque
I first encountered this barbeque at a dollar store. It does cost a little more, but it is a durable and easy to use barbeque. It folds flat and includes four wire feet and a grill top. To make it last, I lined it with two sheets of heavy-duty foil and would poke holes in the sides to allow airflow to the charcoal. I could frequently barbeque four chicken quarters with only two dozen briquettes. When the ashes were cold, cleanup was a breeze. It folds down to 9.5″ x 9.5″ x 3/8″ and weighs less than half a pound.
The Quick Grill Medium
This stainless steel folding barbeque will cook enough for a family and fold up compact enough to fit in a backpack or easy to use carrying case. Use charcoal or wood to cook meals. The grill size is 12″ by 12,” which provides 144 square inches of cooking space. It folds down into a compact 14″ x 8″ x 2″ and weighs less than five pounds.
Esbit Folding Barbeque Grill
The Esbit folds down to 12″ x 9″ x 3.5″ and weighs a little over five pounds. One great feature is adjustability. The grill height is adjustable to three different levels and the grill includes a removable handle so you don’t burn your hands. Stainless steel construction means this will not rust when wet and will last with proper care.
Folding Sterno Stove
For the ultimate in compactness, this stove folds down to about an inch thick and less than 7″ x 7″ wide. Sterno gel is widely available and affordable. Setup and breakdown is easy, and when only a little is left in one can, it can be scooped out and placed in another to save money. This is not a barbeque, you will need to use cookware with this stove. It is really handy to use when cooking for one or two people.
Firebox 5″ Folding Stove
This small stove folds to a compact 5″ x 7″ x .5″ thick and weighs around two pounds. It can be used as a campfire box, grill or stove. It will burn ecobricks, fuel tablets, wood, charcoal or any biomass. This versatile stove should find its way into just about any disaster kit or camping kit. Although this may have a small grill area, you can cook for an entire family without frustration.
Have fun camping, tailgating, patio cooking or eating well during an emergency with any of these folding stoves and barbeques. They make great gifts for outdoor enthusiasts as well.
