Real Estate can be an interesting career. If you like to meet people, have great selling skills, have an eye for quality, and would like to manage yourself with flexible hours, real estate could be for you. In 2012 Real Estate Brokers averaged $41,990 per year, reports bls.gov. A lot of people think Real Estate Agents and Real Estate Brokers are the same. However, Real Estate Brokers are licensed to manage their own real estate business, while Real Estate Agents help sell, buy and rent properties under the Broker.
The first requirement in becoming Real Estate Agent is to be at least 18 years or older. You must also have your High School Diploma or GED. Once you have meet these requirements you are on your way to becoming an Agent.
Make sure that Real Estate is really something you are interested in. Read some material on the life of a Real Estate Agent, and compare it against other things you may be interested in. This is a good idea so you won’t find yourself half way through not continuing, and loose valuable time and money. Once you decide that you do want to continue in this career path, find a Real Estate School either online or on campus that you can attend. The class must have the required 75 Hour Principles course reports bls.gov. Word to the wise, make sure that there are no time conflicts or other requirements that may cause a problem later on down the line, if you decide to go the class room setting route. If you have children or other responsibilities, not to worry, online classes are much more flexible with busy schedules. You can usually do these classes on your own time within a specified time frame.
Once you make it this far, great! You are more than halfway there and you just need to register to take the Georgia real estate licensing exam. It must be approved by the GREC. (Georgia Real Estate Commission) Your Broker should provide your testing center once they have received your certificate. The exam costs only $91.00, and the test is 4 hours.
Once you pass the exam, then you will need to get a background check in order to apply to get your license. Make sure you apply for the license before a year from the date you passed your exam or you may have to take the exam again. It’s better to get the license before three months has lapsed and you will pay the 170.00 licensing fee, after three months then the fee is $340.00.
Congratulations once you get your Real Estate License! Now to maintain your license you must take 24 hours of continuing education classes every 4 years, along with a few other things reports the Georgia Real Estate Commission.
