When it comes to fitness, there always seems to be the same old song, “I just don’t have time to go to the gym.” And then you have at-home gyms that are right for some and completely wrong for others. When you’re not going to the gym or using a home gym, there is always the third method, DVD programs. Sometimes it’s difficult trying to figure out which one to do because there are so many things to consider, such as money, time and space (not to mention quality of the workouts.) This is what causes the gym vs. home gym vs. DVD program phenomenon. When trying to decide which one will fit, not only your schedule, but your lifestyle, it’s important to breakdown the benefits that each one gives you, and what (if anything) turns you off about that particular method.
With going to a gym there are loads of things to consider, starting with the many benefits you get upon becoming a member of a gym. You get plenty of hands-on training, and with many people, especially fitness beginners, that hands on training is needed to make sure the workouts and the workout machines are being done/used correctly. You have to consider your heart rate, body mass, and your ultimate weight loss goal, and having a professional there beside you, guiding you through every step, is a great thing to have. These professional fitness trainers can also give you tips to take home with you regarding nutrition and other various things you can do to stay in shape when you’re not in the gym, especially when it comes to training with an injury. You don’t have to have a fitness trainer while working out at a gym, however.
After considering all the benefits you get with becoming a member of a gym, there are other things to think about that might not be such a benefit after all, and many people take these things into consideration also when making their decision. The cons with going to a gym would be the lack of privacy, and high monthly fees. A beginner in fitness may feel apprehensive about going to the gym because of the many people there also working out. Sometimes you don’t want to workout with lots of people staring at you, and with all the mirrors inside of a gym, can make any newbie feel too nervous. As far as the monthly fees, some gyms seem to charge way too much, while others charge a lower fee, but without sufficient quality in the workouts you get.
Always remember that with going to a gym, it takes time away from your schedule, which is the main complaint many people seem to have these days, not having enough time. Going to the gym involves using up a lot of time it takes in order to go from one machine to another just to make sure you’re working out your entire body. Although there are other things you can do in a gym that doesn’t involve a machine, you still need to consider the time it takes to commute to the gym, as well as, how long it’ll take you to workout at the gym before commuting back home. That, alone, is plenty of time taken out of your day. So remember that also when making your decision, if time is the main thing that’s important to you. Some gyms to consider are:
Home gyms solve many problems that going to gym seems to create. There are many home gyms that are created in order to prevent the need to use multiple machines to work out your entire body. And what makes it even better, is there is only one fee to pay instead of monthly payments, depending on the type of home gym you have. Some places or websites allow you to make vast payments if the particular home gym you desire is a large sum. But that’s entirely up to you. After you purchase your home gym, you don’t have to worry about any fees thereafter. Gyms such as the Total Gym offers you a way to work out your entire body, with one machine. You can work out your legs, arms, buttocks, back, and more by simply switching from one position to another. Once you’re finished, you can simply fold up the machine and put it away for later use. This is also a great thing to have if you don’t have a lot of space in your home to keep it set up.
There are many variations of the Total Gym that gives you somewhat of the same quality, and it’s a great thing to consider getting if the Total Gym is just too expensive for you. One of those variations is the Jillian Michaels Ultimate Body Shop. I purchased this myself after realizing the Total Gym was too expensive, and it was just as good. Here are a couple of links to other types of home gyms:
Bowflex Home Gyms
When considering home gyms, you have to remember that they’re not for everyone. For some, they are simply too bulky for those that are clumsy. Not a good match if you’re training by yourself because of the dangerous risks you are taking. If you’re not careful these home gyms can seriously hurt you, and not everyone is equipped to handle them. If you’re someone who wants to use a machine for fitness, and you’re too clumsy or just not able to handle a home gym, have someone with you that knows how to handle it better. If you have no one to help you then it’s best to go to the gym instead. If a home gym is right for you, although expensive, it’s still cheaper than paying monthly fees at a gym, your workouts will get done faster, and you can accomplish this all in the privacy of your own home. I, personally love home gyms, and would recommend it to any fitness enthusiast.
DVD Workout Programs:
DVD programs are another favorite of mine because they allow you quick and to-the-point workouts that target your entire body. When choosing the right one, consider getting one that gives you enough of a challenge so that you don’t need to use a machine in order to get in shape. There are plenty of DVD programs that offer this. It’s only a matter of trial and error in choosing one that’s perfect for your fitness level, as well as choosing one that will ultimately help you reach your fitness goals.
DVD programs are the cheapest choice when it comes to health and fitness, although some workout programs can cost around the same amount as a cheaper home gym because of the amount of workouts that comes with the program. You get the benefits of strength training, cardio, and flexibility, the same way you would if you were to choose going to the gym and using home gyms. Consider your current health and fitness level before considering a DVD program first.
Like with home gyms, it’s important to choose a DVD after making sure you’re healthy enough to handle it at home by yourself. Workouts given by trainers, such as Shaun T offer you fitness DVD’s that will take you to the maximum in your fitness goals and beyond. I have tried MANY DVD programs that supposedly offer you a range of benefits, but none were like Shaun T, and in fact, it feels like he’s right in the room with you. However, his workouts are extremely strenuous for some, and may not be able to handle it, so take care when choosing one of his DVD’s. He also offers dance workouts as well. Fun and fit is always the way to be.
With workout DVD’s you get the utmost privacy as well. That’s something that is important to many people. So if you’re hard on money, and want to be fit with the added benefit of privacy, choose a DVD. You can’t go wrong there. The Beachbody website offers you a wide range of workout DVD’s so it’ll be easy choosing one that works for you. You can choose something extreme, something moderate, or something fun.
