In the song According to You, by a young lady named Orianthi, the truth of healing from emotional abuse comes literally screaming through to a listener that, at one point in the relationship, there came a breakdown of communication and then one day, each person who has been victimized realizes that the reason that they feel so badly about who they are is because someone else told them who they are to them, and someone else kept on telling these “victims” that this was the abuser’s truth, and that there are no other truths at all about their victim.
In the song Fighter, by none other than Ms. Christina Aguilera, we find, too, the same rallying call of the collective of abused people everywhere, the very call that tells the world that we no longer believe what someone else has brought to our lives, that we cannot fathom what it is that we have actually gone through, physically and emotionally, but we are also not going to take anymore of it lying down, with our throat exposed, waiting for someone else to make their truths also ours by force.
There is more to this writing than my only showing you two mainstream artists whose lives were marred by abuse. It is to show you all that there is a way, there is a personal method by which we will heal, and it is within our creative nature. Humans are born with the need (yes, need) to create, anything. It is how many songs were created, how many beautiful paintings were made, how a whole lot of poetry is written. Creativity stems from the Soul within, and when the Soul is in pain there is nothing like writing it out, drawing it into a picture, taking a picture of something that mirrors what lives within us, dancing until our feet are numb and our Souls have been restored to its almost original form of delight. Delight is where the Soul thrives, is where we all try to find ourselves as Beings of the Light.
It is our right, our duty, to be every bit as creative as we can be. The Soul only knows that it aches, but the mind recalls why it does, and when you mix the feeling with the reality, even as the pain is real and the hurt throbs like nothing which can be described, some beautiful things begin to happen. For years I have danced hula, and for years it was where I hid myself when push came to shove. It was one of those things that I loved so very dearly that started out for my abuser as being something that intrigued him, but ended up being something that he would use to belittle me. The things which made these people love us becomes also the thing by which they will attack us, eventually. Yet, it is also those very things that no one can take away from us, and it is this way because somehow, Spirit knew that we would need something to take away our pain. Creativity is one such thing, and luckily, we are all born with some measure of it.
Sing your heart out, draw to your Soul’s content, dance beneath the moon when it is full, and most of all, be within your Spirit’s natural essence. We were all gifted with something inside of us that tells us that when things are ugly, and when it seems as though the entire world has turned its back on us, that Spirit will remind us, through those things which are particular to us, that we are indeed worthy, that we are not useless, not stupid, that we were not meant to fight just to be ourselves. We find out, through our own selves, that who we are is not created by anyone else, but by our very Sacred Selves.
Remember this. Never believe the things that you know, for sure, are someone else’s forced truths about you, your worth as a human being, your value as a person, and your mission in this lifetime as a Powerful and Empowered Creator. You were created in the image that is that of the All That Is. It is not your fault that there are some people on this planet who cannot see the beauty in themselves, and that they thought they could take away yours, just so that they would not have to tolerate their own ugliness.
You are a beautiful warrior Soul.
Never forget this, because this is the truth…
