There are about a million things to prepare for when you are planning for a trip abroad. Due to this it is easy to miss certain aspects about the planning like I did. Take a look at some of what I have found out and see how it can help you to plan
How are you going to pay?
There are a variety of ways to pay for things while over seas, and none of them are wrong, but you do need have a plan in place. Many credit cards and banks charge overseas transaction fees and I know you don’t want that. No one likes to pay more except for that weird baby from the Capital one commercials. I am going to be using a combination of credit cards and cash, but I am also going to be looking into what my bank charges for over sees transactions.
What credit card have I found to be the best in terms of fees? Bank of America typically have the best cards for this.
How Much Are you Going to Need?
Americans are very America centric, not a shock. The downside to this is that many Americans are unaware of the exchange rate. The dollar is not so almighty anymore. In Europe most countries have their own currency but will also accept the Euro. Since the Euro is more widely accepted I will focus on that. If you want an exact measure try this site, but that isn’t particularly convenient. Instead a good rule of thumb is that you should expect the euro to be double. For example, if something cost 10 euros, assume it is the same as 20 dollars. That is definitely an overestimation, but by overestimating you will have money left over when it doesn’t cost as much as the estimation.
What Are You Forgetting?
There are certain things that are often forgotten when planning for these kinds of trips. In fact, it is almost a habit with some people. Do yourself a favor and identify yours. I normally forget to plan for the cost of eating. Sometimes travel, like cabs, as well. Other costs frequently forgotten include communication, and entertainment. Point is, you need to take stock now to prevent a surprise cost like that.
You want to be able to have fun and go with the flow while you are in Europe, so make it easier for that to be a reality by doing your homework now. Plan and know everything you can and then when you get where you are going blow off steam!
