If you’re like me, the past few years in gaming have been endlessly disappointing. What’s a person still in love with the golden age of JRPGs to do? We have a couple of shining beacons of hope on the horizon in the form of Kingdom Hearts 3 and the long anticipated Final Fantasy XV. So is it going to live up to the hype? These are my predictions.
“We’re not rushing the title.”
Square Enix has been clear that they are not going to make the mistake that has been plaguing even some of the most popular games of our age: They are going to take their time with development in order to produce a phenomenal product regardless of pressure from the fans. As impatient as I am personally to get my hands on this title, I give Square Enix props for sticking to their guns. Hopefully this no-rush-delivery on the product means that we are going to get the absolute best that the gaming behemoth has to offer– which we already know is pretty awesome.
This is a fantasy based on reality
We already know from the trailers we have that this game is going to be different from all of the other Final Fantasy titles in a lot of ways. one being the fact that it seems to be set in an alternate version of our own world; some of the cityscapes really resemble modern day Shinjuku,Tokyo, for example. While a lot of fans are apprehensive of this, I think it bodes well in terms of stories and the possibilities included there. After all, the most powerful stories are the ones that pay homage to the human struggles that we go through on a regular basis. The most successful stories are the ones that we as human beings can find ourselves in. That being said, I see a great deal of room for innovation and something new and different for us to experience.
I think it’s best to go into this with a healthy dose of optimism rather than holding to the jaded rhetoric we classic gamers have defaulted into these days. We’ve been disappointed so many times that I think we’ve lost our ability to pick the good things out of the bad and just enjoy a title for what it is. Regardless of what anyone thinks of Final Fantasy XV from what little we’ve seen so far, I know that I’ll be one of the first in line to get it– with my fingers crossed.
