Feng Shui on a Budget: New Master Bedroom for Less Than $25

by yak max

I recently decided to redecorate my home according to the principles of the Feng Shui. My goal is to clean my home, clear clutter, and eliminate negative energy. I decided to start in my Master Bedroom which contains both the Southeast and East portions of my home.

The Southeast area covers Wealth & Prosperity so this is definitely a good starting point for my Feng Shui journey! The East area covers Family, also an important aspect in my life.

Unfortunately, I don’t own my own home, so making major changes is difficult. Even painting an accent wall is not an option for a renter like me. Likewise, I don’t have extra money to spend on expensive upgrades. I plan to incorporate Feng Shui in my home on a small budget. Below are the upgrades I made to my Master Bedroom for less than $25.00.

New Dresser and New Bookshelf

Total Cost-Zero Dollars

A main principle of Feng Shui is a well-organized and clutter free environment full of items that you love. One thing I’ve always hated about our bedroom is my husband’s particle board dresser with a busted bottom drawer. I removed a nearly empty dresser from my son’s bedroom to make room for his desk (which was stuffed in a corner in my office but never used). My husband was so excited to inherit the dresser that he turned his broken dresser into a bookshelf for me! I am always looking for space for all of my books and I am so happy to have turned his broken furniture into something pleasant and appealing for our home.

Picture Frames and Pictures

Total Cost- Zero Dollars

The main elements of both Wealth and Prosperity and Family are wood and water. I pulled out all of the wooden picture frames I collected over the years that were lining the bottom of my picture box. Shoved in a corner of my closet for far too long, I started hammering nails into the wall.

For intimacy, pictures displayed in a bedroom should be of the couple only, and should not include pictures of immediate family members or children. I had to take down quite a few family photos I was displaying in the bedroom in error. At first, I wasn’t even sure I could find enough pictures of just me and my husband to fit in the frames, but I was delighted at how many pictures of the two of us I found to display. A picture of us snapped moments after our engagement. A picture taken during one of our favorite weekend getaways. A picture taken of us standing in front of Lake Erie, which is my personal favorite because it also includes the Wealth and Prosperity element of water.

Wooden Shelves

Total Cost- Zero Dollars

In my garage, I discovered six wooden shelves I’ve collected over the years. I hung three of them in my bedroom and used them to display our picture frames. I added other important items like a pair of his and her bracelets and a pair of wooden arrows my husband and I kept as a souvenir from an awesome retreat in New York City.

Indoor Plants

3 English Ivy Plants-$5.00

3 Self-Watering Pots-$5.94

One large bag of soil-$8.00

Total Cost-$18.94

The best way to add the wood element to any room is with live plants. My husband and I had the most fun shopping at Lowe’s! I am amazed we walked out of there spending less than $20! The plants are beautiful with wild ivy limbs that are already starting to climb and wind with their own personalities. We splurged a bit on the self-watering pots, especially because they came in bright colors like green, red, and blue (another way to slip in the supporting water element). We only used a small portion of the soil for the indoor plants and could have cost costs here a little, but we wanted extra soil for our outdoor plants and vegetables as well.

I placed one plant on my dresser below a grouping a four picture frames. The other two plants sit on shelves across from each other on opposite walls.

Outdoor Flowers

Six pack of White Celosia-$4.98

Total Cost-$4.98

I also wanted to add a wood element outside the bedroom wall. My husband has always wanted to plant flowers near the driveway for added curb appeal, so this was a win-win! We agreed on neutral white flowers and used up our leftover soil. We will save the red flowers we liked for a later use to enhance an area with a Fire element!

I started my Feng Shui journey to reap the benefits of an organized space and relax in the comfort of a peaceful space. For less than $25.00, I am enjoying the warmth and beauty of my new bedroom, while adding to the Wealth & Prosperity and Family areas in my life. Here’s to experiencing Feng Shui on a budget…and loving it!
