by yak max

The following are my five recipe picks for the best salad recipes from the Taste of Home Annual Recipes. Taste of home has always offered you delicious recipes that are a reflection of their name, they taste like and are homemade recipes for you to cook in your kitchen for your family and friends. Check out these recipe ideas. I am sure you will find something that you will like.

Popcorn Salad – I must admit, when I came across this recipe I had to look twice, a salad with popcorn? This is considered a change of pace salad and boy do the family and friend enjoy the change. Made with popcorn, of course, the other ingredients are celery, cheddar cheese, water chestnuts, bacon, carrots and chives. Wow, this is really a very interesting salad and I encourage you to give it a try in your kitchen and see how your family and friends enjoy it.

West Coast Potato Salad – This recipe is made with asparagus and red potatoes and takes on a “tongue-tingling” tang from the herbs and lemon juice that are included in the ingredients. The recipe comes from the San Francisco Bay area which is very close to California’s primary asparagus-growing region. Boy do they have ample access to some of the freshest asparagus during the growing season. Enjoy the taste of tarragon that is a somewhat unusual ingredient, I enjoy using it in several recipes like my chicken salad for one.

Buffalo Steak Salad – This sounds like a hearty salad just from the name and indeed it is with the beef that is included. They offer you to use buffalo sirloin or rib eye steaks, personally I am not sure where to buy the buffalo, but if you do, give it a try I am sure it will be delicious. Crumbled blue cheese is used in this recipe which is one of my favorite stinky cheese as well as carrots, onion and olives with other seasonings. This has a lemon juice and red wine vinegar type dressing which goes well with the other ingredients.

Chicken Salad Puffs – This is a very interesting salad that is served up in light and fluffy cream puffs! With just five simple ingredients you have some cream puffs that you will fill will the chicken salad that has some chopped celery, olives and other seasonings. Serving these up on a platter with some lettuce for garnish and maybe some lemon slices, people will think you went to a lot of trouble to make this dish. With the chicken salad piled into the cream puff and the lids stacked on top at an angle you get a great view of the salad inside and they look very appetizing.

Kielbasa Summer Salad – Get ready to have your taste buds get a charge from the combination of flavors as well as the textures that come from this salad. You can serve this up as a side dish or as a main course and however you serve it up, it will be one delicious dish. Great for potlucks this salad includes your sausage, some black-eyed-peas, apples, green peppers, onions and a dressing that you put together as well with a cider vinegar base.

There you have my five picks for the best salad recipes from Taste of Home’s 2000 Annual Cookbook. I think that you will enjoy these recipe choices, look them over and see if there is something that you would like to cook up in your kitchen for your family and friends to try. A new dish is always welcome in my home, it keeps things interesting and we never get bored because there is always something new to try.
