Father Day is coming up. While it seems like Brad Pitt is the face of all adoptive parents in the world, there are many more dads who have done the same and provided love and support to a child in need of a family. Here is a shout out to all fathers, including these other famous dads, who have adopted children.
Ty Burrell of Modern Family adopted a six-month-old baby girl in 2010 named Frances with his wife, Holly. He adopted a second daughter two years later, but her identity is kept secret. He released a statement to PEOPLE about the second adoption and how it brought him closer to his wife of 14 years. Burrell tells PEOPLE magazine in 2010, “There’s lots of problem solving in any marriage, but when you have this collective goal that is a human being, it’s an inspiring rally point.”
Tom Cruise, who is the star of a big budget summer blockbuster Edge of Tomorrow set to release in the beginning of June, also has two adopted kids of his own. After marrying Nicole Kidman in 1990, the both adopted Connor and Isabella Cruise. In 2007, Kidman revealed to Vanity Fair about what prompted their first adoption: “We lost a baby early on, so that was really very traumatic. And that’s when we would adopt Bella.”
After a divorce with Kidman, both Connor and Isabella chose to remain with Cruise in LA rather than move to Australia with their mother. Connor, 19, and Isabella, 21, continue to part of Tom’s life, even after the divorce from Katie Holmes.
Lionel Richie adopted Nicole Richie from her birthparents when she was around six. Nicole tells PEOPLE magazine in 2003, “My parents were friends with Lionel. They trusted that they would be better able to provide for me.” Lionel Richie has been continually supporting Nicole since then.
