My son is going to be 6 years old on May 27th. He is a great kid and sadly because his birthday falls around a holiday getting people to attend his birthdays is no easy task. He is a very active child. I like to do outdoor activities and now that he is getting old enough to understand the importance of following the rules I can start bringing him along with me when I go out to do such things. Last year for his 5th birthday I brought him a Spiderman fishing pole he loves Spiderman. When he opened it and we set it up he was like every other kid his age with a new toy, he drove us absolutely nuts!
That boy would walk around with the fishing pole and try to cast it any chance he got. I must have untangled the line about 100 times that day alone. He wanted to fish so bad he would stay up late night in his room and practice when he should have been in bed. You could hear him knocking things down every time he would cast the line in his room. We would snicker and not say anything because we knew he was really happy. We would find in passed out with the pole in his hand passed out somewhere either in his recliner or his bed.
So this year since he is a little older and is now starting to understand the importance of listening to us and following rules that we have put in place to ensure his safety we have planned to take him fishing. I plan to have a cookout as always except this time we are going to do it at a place near by our home. I hope he enjoys it. I don’t think he quite understands that the fish are not to be kept as pets,
A few weeks ago I went fishing and brought home some fish. He saw them and we waited and when he was asleep we killed and prepared them so we could eat them. The next morning he was upset that the fish were gone. He said he wanted to know what we did with his fish? We don’t lie to him so we told him that those fish were not for house pets I guess that satisfied his curiosity because he didn’t bring it up again.
So I am hoping that it will be nice on his birthday. This way we can all go out together for the first time and enjoy both fishing and his birthday with the whole family. We rarely ever get to go places together as a whole family. Either way it will be a good day just celebrating another birthday with him.
