Decades ago, fast food restaurants basically only sold pizza, chicken, or burgers and fries. Today, these major food chains, are changing their menu’s and offering more healthy choices to an increasingly health conscious society.
Kentucky Fried chicken continues to only sell chicken, but they now have chicken biscuits, strips sandwiches, and popcorn chicken. The other fast food eateries however, have made significant menu changes.
There was a time when Burger King was famous as the home to the Whopper, McDonald’s was known for the Big Mac and Quarter Pounder, while Pizza Hut and Domino’s sold Pizza only. Today the lines are blurred with each restaurant selling items they did not in decades past.
McDonald’s has been selling their Chicken Mcnuggets for quite a while. They now have a chicken biscuit on the dollar menu. Burger King, Wendy’s. Pizza Hut and Domino’s all now have chicken on the menu, either nuggets, wings, sandwiches or 2 of the 3.
Arby’s used to sell only roast beef, but now they offer a fish sandwich periodically. Burger King and McDonald’s have been selling fish for some time. This is good news because fish and chicken are healthier than meat, which is high in cholesterol and saturated fat.
Chick-fil-A now has a yogurt parfait. You can top it with granola or cookie crumbs. A small yogurt has 230 calories. McDonald’s yogurt parfait has 150 calories. Both have fruit. Domino’s sells fresh oven baked sandwiches, Burger King has a veggie burger, and both Burger King and McDonald have added oatmeal to their breakfast lineup.
Except for Arby’s all the other mentioned restaurants have various types of salads. I love the Pizza Hut salad that is offered during their lunch Buffet. For $6.00 you can fill a large container and have enough carry out salad for several meals.
Burger King’s motto used to be that special orders did not upset them, and they told customers to “have it your way,” It seems that all the fast food restaurants are realizing customers desire healthier menu’s , and are taking heed to the song by the O Jay’s, “Got to give the people what they want.”
