If you’re not familiar with the Artiaga family, you must be living under a rock. This family was chosen by TMZ’s Harvey Levin to come to Hollywood in the pursuit of fame and fortune. Levin has put the family up in a mansion and is giving them 12 weeks to do whatever it takes to get famous. Whether they’ll be the next Kardashians remains to be seen. Every Tuesday the reality show displays the family’s antics. The focus in mainly on the three daughters; 19-year-old Maariyah who’s a singer, 26-year-old Taliah, a dancer, and Jameelah a 22-year-old, self-proclaimed model. Recently week 2 of the show aired and if you missed it, here’s recap so you can catch up.
The second week of the Artiaga’s quest for fame starts off with a photo shoot of Jameelah. During the shoot she’s basically naked, except for the two dogs that she holds in front of her privates. The photos are supposed to mimic a PETA advertisement. This made her decide to go to the PETA offices to see if she could be considered for a billboard advertisement. She showed up at PETA holding a large poster of herself in front of her half-naked body. After actually getting in the door, she was told that PETA would love to work with her during demonstrations that they regularly have. So much for the billboard. I guess they’ll spare those for the real celebrities. However, this was a big step that took a lot of guts, and is sure not to go unnoticed.
The Artiagas are under the impression that they can gain fame by being seen with famous people. In week 2, they decided to hang out in front of George Clooney’s West Hollywood restaurant “Craig’s.” After discovering that Shelly Sterling was inside the restaurant, the girls got excited and decided that it was the ultimate photo bomb opportunity. When Sterling came out of the restaurant the threesome crowded her and pretended to know her. They walked her to her car as if they had known her forever, only so the crowd of photographers would take pictures of them. With the whole Sterling controversy that’s going on, these photos were sure to pop up in many different media sources. Mission accomplished. Harvey was proud of the girls and thought that this courageous act showed much potential.
The Dog Park
Jameelah, the more aggressive one of the three daughters, came up with an idea to walk a dog in a dog park that’s known for it’s many celebrity visitors and their pooches. The only problem was that the family didn’t have a dog. The problem was quickly solved after Jameelah discovered that she could rent a dog for the day. In the park, she proceeded to be rude to people who were not of celebrity status, and to her disappointment, she didn’t run into anyone famous. This was a waste of time, which was clearly pointed out by Harvey toward the end of the show. He also pointed out that Jameelah needed to change her attitude and be nicer to people, because in Hollywood, you never know who’s who and who knows who.
The L.A. Pride Parade
The Artiaga girls decided that it would be good to get some notoriety during the L.A. Pride Parade. Before the parade, they decide to go for a stroll on Santa Monica Boulevard and mingle with the people. They asked most of the people they interacted with to cheer for them during the parade. This was somewhat successful, and the girls even picked up advice on what to wear to the parade. The parade itself was quite successful. The girls ended up getting cheered on and photographed and between all the half-naked guys and drag queens, they left a lasting impression.
Compared to last week, the Family is stepping their game. They’re actually getting some press, and although many don’t know the names of the girls, they do refer to them as “the girls from Famous in 12.” Their social media followers are quickly increasing, and although this could be a good start, the question remains…Where is the talent?
