Working professionally as a search engine optimization, or SEO, consultant for over five years, as well as being in the business for nearly ten, I have grown extremely fond of a powerful little gem – the .EDU backlink. There are many reasons why .EDU backlinks should be a part of your offsite SEO campaign. They are given extra weight due to the authority of the domains themselves, only accredited universities may register a .EDU domain, in addition to being great and authoritative sites with extremely high PageRank. Unfortunately it is extremely time consuming to find websites on .EDU domains that allow you to post links, it can take an hour for each link even with powerful search engine scraping tools. Fortunately you can use some of my insider tips, tricks and links I’ve already compiled here for you to jump right in and save yourself a ton of time!
These are high quality links and should be treated as such. If given the chance add a unique and relevant article, use proper anchor text on your backlinks and avoid stuffing links and keywords. Your goal should not be to spam these sites but to create just a single powerful link pointing back to your website. This will give you maximum link juice and make sure that these sites allow you to continue posting links and articles on them for a long time to come. If you don’t follow the best SEO practices, as outlined by Google themselves, even the authority of these domains will not provide you with the significant boost to your search rankings that you are seeking.
MediaWiki .EDU Full Articles with Backlinks
One of the easiest and most valuable sources for .EDU links is from wiki sites, the most common platform being MediaWiki. These provide great SEO benefits such as full article for contextually relevant backlinks, anchor text, in content links and brand new pages for zero other outbound links. The process for creating articles with links on this platform is fairly straightforward but we will briefly cover it.
All links in this list will point to the signup page, fill in the details here to create a new account and login to the wiki.
You will now notice your username on the top navigation bar for the page, click on it to navigate to your user page. Here you will click ‘edit page‘ and be brought to a text editor. This is where you post your backlinks and/or article. You may use the tools in the editor for formatting and adding anchor text to your links as well.
