Some popular characters, such as Barbie and Scooby Doo, continue to be popular even after their first run. Sometimes, that’s a good thing. For instance, if your child is suddenly fascinated with a character that used to be one of your own favorites, you might have some toys or things that you could pass down. And, if you’re getting ready to have a birthday party for your son, cross your fingers and hope that, when you ask him what the theme is that he wants for his party, he’ll choose Ninja Turtles. It’s a fun theme for boys and it’s really easy to make impressive cupcakes!

I’m not a fan of a recipe that claims to be easy and then has me in the kitchen all day. When I say that Ninja Turtles cupcakes are easy I really mean it! You’ll create a theme from long ago, as well as a theme that’s popular today, and you’ll be able to do it without any cake decorating skills.

Bake the cupcakes that will be the desserts of the party. Chocolate is a great flavor/color choice but you can also use white cupcakes – tinted green – or another choice. After baking them, allow to cool completely, and then frost them with green frosting.

There are a couple of different ways that you can create the faces on the Ninja Turtles. The easiest way is to save a tiny amount of white frosting, tint the largest amount of it green, and tint the small amount four different colors: red, orange, purple, and blue. The mask for each Ninja Turtle cupcake is nothing more than a stripe across the eyes. However, it can be a bit challenging to pipe a tiny amount of frosting from a bag. A second choice is to smooth the green frosting well, freeze the cupcakes until the icing is stiff, and then use a food marker to draw each mask. Alternatively, use a piece of Fruit by the Foot for the mask, and frosting dots to hold the candy eyes in place.

If you’re making a frosting stripe across each cake as a mask, pipe it on, and then set candy eyes in the frosting. But if you’re going to use a food marker, draw the mask, and then use a couple of dots of frosting to hold the candy eyes in place.

The Ninja Turtles have been popular with boys for many years – and they still are. So, make the easy cupcakes, put a green sheet on the table, and set it with Ninja Turtle paper plates and cups. It’ll be one of your son’s favorite parties ever!
