Faith and family are two things Pittsburghers are passionate about, and Easter is the time of year when these two culminate into the crowning faith-based celebration. This year, Easter festivities abound in the Burgh, and there are sure to be some fun and fulfilling events near you.
Carnegie Presbyterian Church
Easter begins and ends with worship. Carnegie Presbyterian Church, known as ‘the Light on the Hill,’ offers three worship services on April 20, Easter Sunday: Sunrise Service at 7:00 am; New Hope Contemporary Service with Praise Band at 8:45 am; and Traditional Service with Choir at 11:00 am. Gateway Clipper Bunny Fun Cruise
Gateway Clipper says, “Hop on board with the kids and meet the one and only Easter Bunny!” There’ll be music and dancing to the Bunny Hop and more, and all the kids will get a special treat from the holiday hare himself! Gateway Clipper has two cruises on April 19: Board at 10:30 am to sail 11:00 am to 1:00 pm; and board at 1:15 pm to sail 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm. Tickets are $25 adult, $12 child. Discovery Christian Church Easter Egg’stravaganza
Hop on over (I had to say it once!) to Mars High School located at 520 Route 228, on April 12 from 3 pm to 5 pm for this indoor carnival-style event. Kids can play games and get lots of candy prizes! There’ll be face painting, balloon animals, and, … helloooo! … the Easter Bunny! There is no registration for this free fun-filled event. Oh yeah, and make sure you bring a bucket for your eggs!
Animal Friends Breakfast with the Bunnies
The Animal Friends inhouse-bunnies (get it?) are throwing their cousin, the Easter Bunny, a ‘hopping good breakfast’! Join them for a scrumptious breakfast and a bun run for the shelter rabbits at 562 Camp Horne Road on Saturday, April 19 from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm. Registration is required. Call 412-847-7055. (Please leave your pet at home for this event for the safety of the bunnies.) There’s also an Easter bake sale the same day from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm, so bring your sweet tooth!
Springtime Dance Party and Egg Hunt with Kid City
For a kid-friendly Easter fun, join DJ Kelly Mom and puppet maker Cheryl Capezzuti on April 12 for an Easter-themed dance party. If weather permits, there’ll be an Easter egg hunt and a bunny run! Times for the festivities are 2 pm to 6 pm April 12. Location is All Saints Community Hall, 3577 McClure Avenue, Pittsburgh.
