If juniors are our future, seniors are our foundation! Senior citizens are the stores of wisdom, knowledge and values that can save marriages, promote our careers, guide our education and/or provide monetary help. Usually, we recognize seniors for the last help but not others. They are the experienced people who have emerged successful in life after time-tested times. Our minimum gift to them is to respect all seniors and to carry forth their ideals.
Governments ensure their well-being by pensions, insurance and life-long old-age welfare schemes. However, they miss family life to a great extent. Senior citizens are neglected in families to the extent they lose interest in life. In families, we have senior citizens in the form of grandmothers or grandfathers.
Life is not possible without the support of all family members. The marriage of Queen Elizabeth and King Philip is a very good example. Usually a king’s palace does not consist of just the family but hundreds of other members. This includes grandparents, in-laws, brothers, sisters, their families, distant relatives, visiting relatives, other kith and kin, servants, their families and working staff members. Both the king and queen go by family values more than any other value. First they keep their families intact and then they rule the people of their states. Queen Elizabeth has inherited and maintained throughout the times that a strong family is the first need of their life. She has always insisted on certain family values that her sons, daughters-in-law, daughters, sons-in-law, grand-children and other members in the family must follow. She has followed the system of joint family throughout the times. Her love for family has won her a lot of respect inside and outside the palace.
Governments in different nations have to develop more employment schemes for seniors. Though they retire, they prefer to work on their convenience. More options of online consultancies for senior citizens can help them find easy jobs in old age. It not only helps them financially but also emotionally. They get ways of spending time productively. Or companies and NGOs can seek seniors on their boards so that they get good points of advice for growth. Seniors know the best practices from past and the lacunae in present systems of society and industry. They can help us guide with future requirements to some extent.
Seniors need to be made aware that the world cares for them, whether they live with us or not, to make it a better society.
