Quarter-yard of cloth
Length of ribbon
When I was helping my sister-in-law get ready for her wedding a couple of years ago, I was shocked at how much a company wanted for a ring pillow. It’s just a pillow; it’s not worth a hundred bucks! I decided to make the pillow myself, so while I was at it, I decided to make it unique. A hair bow ring pillow is simply adorable and can portray any theme. Getting ready to get married? Consider the hair bow ring pillow; it’s adorable and really easy to make.
Perfect for little hands to carry it, a ring pillow made like a bow fits in with nearly any wedding theme. That’s true because you can purchase fabric with any theme. Make a white satin bow for a traditional wedding, a bow featuring musical notes for a wedding with a music theme, or choose fabric with flowers on it to make the bow – perfect for many different types of weddings. Just look around online, or at a local fabric store, to find the cloth that speaks to you. It will take about a quarter-yard to make the pillow.
Lay the fabric out on a flat surface and use a pencil to draw. Make a line that represents how long you want the bow pillow to be. Then, turn that line into a rectangle, making the width as wide as you want the pillow to be. Cut two identical pieces and stack them so that the right sides are facing each other.
Start near the middle of one long side of the fabric. Sew to the corner, up one short side, across the long side, and down the short side. Go around the corner and stop a few inches from where you started. That will leave an opening for stuffing the pillow.
Turn the pillow right side-out and work the stuffing into the hole. Sew the opening shut. Then, cut a band that will be used to wrap around the center of the bow. The band length and width will vary, depending on the size of the ring pillow that you have made. The band will hold the rings. Cut the band, cut a length of ribbon, and sew the middle of the ribbon to the middle of the band. Wrap the band around the middle of the bow and then attach Velcro to close the band. Use the ribbon to tie on the rings.
A bow pillow is easy, inexpensive, and cute at any wedding. Guests will see the ring bearer with the pillow and will find it so adorable. The ring bearer will appreciate it, too; he won’t have that embarrassing moment of losing control over a giant pillow!
