Road triiiiiiiiip!!!! It’s a great way to see things that you wouldn’t see on a normal vacation. Driving cross-country is a big undertaking, but with the right planning and tools, it can be the best trip of your life!
Mapping It Out – If you were planning a road trip 10 to 15 years ago, you would want to pack a map. But with today’s technology, simply making sure your phone is charged up will do you just fine (but pack a car charger for the road). You should plan your trip based on what you want to see during your cross-country trip. You could take many different routes driving across the U.S., so plan based on interesting sites that you want to see.
Pack Light – When you’re driving cross-country, you have to pack light. You want to bring the essentials: a few changes of clothes, toiletries, snacks for the road, phone chargers, camera, money, comfortable shoes, and don’t forget most importantly, a AAA Membership! You never know what will happen to your car on the road and you do not want to end up stranded in the middle of nowhere ruining your trip.
Must See Sites – There are some amazing things that everyone should see when going on a trip across the U.S. Here are a few places that you cannot miss during your trip: San Francisco (stop at the Golden Gate Bridge); Yosemite National Park; the Grand Canyon; the Great Salt Lake; walk Sixth Street in Austin, Texas; Acadia National Park; Niagara Falls; the French Quarter and Bourbon Street in New Orleans; Washington D.C.; and the Metropolitan Art Museum and Central Park in New York. All of these places contribute to American history, so take your time and enjoy each one for what it has to offer.
Be Ready for Adventure – Don’t be afraid to veer away from your plans a little bit. A road trip is an adventure and you should be ready for anything! Go a little off course, stop at a little dive bar in a tiny town, rummage through old thrift shops, and make some new friends along the way. Don’t be afraid to try new things, that’s what this trip is all about!
Only Fun People Invited – You don’t want anyone who is a downer on a road trip with you across the country. You will be spending weeks in a car with this person or people so make sure you choose your trip buddies wisely! Pick people who are fun, mellow, that you get along with, and are interested in doing the same things as you. This will play a huge part in how your trip plays out.
Good luck and happy driving!
