The Discover card is actually my favorite credit card, in part because it is easy to use, but also because the rewards are pretty extensive. It’s easy to apply for by simply going to here and you find out almost immediately if you are going to qualify for a card. We received a nice credit line and interest rate so we accepted the offer and began using the card pretty quickly.
I will start with the slight downside to having a Discover Card and it is that not every business accepts it. It isn’t accepted everywhere that Visa works, so make sure to keep that in mind when you are taking the card out with you. Nearly every place I come across online accepts it though, including our cable company and utilities company, so it rarely presents a problem.
Using the card you can receive all sorts of benefits, including immediate cash back based on where you make your purchases. You can an automatic 1% back no matter where you buy items, but they also offer great percentages at companies online. You could get 5% cash back for buying online at Best Buy or up to 20% at other businesses. This makes it very easy to simply purchase items on the card and then pay them off to get the added benefits.
Then there are the pay on time cash back bonuses. Every month you make your payment on time, you get a bonus equivalent to 5% of your current month’s interest charges. So if you are running a balance and simply pay your card on time each month, you get an extra benefit from it that makes it seem like you have an even lower interest rate on your purchases. That bonus can accrue for a while until you decide to cash it out or simply apply it back to your card.
The website for Discover is one of the easiest I have ever used for a credit card and it puts everything at your fingertips. You always get an updated list of pending transaction, the online available credit limit shifts every time you make a purchase to keep you honest and the statements are extremely detailed. They also have this new option where if you pay your phone, TV or internet bill using your Discover card you can get double cash back bonus. That’s just money in the bank for those customers paying off their balances quickly.
In addition to all of those uses, you can also choose to take advantage of their financial tools to find out where your money is going every month. It’s a very good tool if you are trying to curb your spending, or you can simply use it to track your finances just so you know what your budget looks like.
I really enjoy having the Discover card and highly recommend it as one of the best to have if you are looking at scoring rewards and online discounts. It wasn’t terribly difficult to get approved for one and we have enjoyed using it ever since. Highly recommended if you need a credit card, especially because of the great cash back bonuses.
