It is amazing how dogs are bred specially to do a certain activity. Every dog has a special purpose and that purpose is what they like to do. They are very good at it naturally and it is what they want to spend their days doing.
Rat Terriers love to hunt rodents and they are very good at it. I have had a Rat Terrier in the house for 15 years and in that time I have not had a single rodent. He is the best mouser I have ever seen and I have witnessed him doing what he likes to do several times. He gets his prey outside the house with a quick jump and a swallow.
Retrievers love to retrieve something like a ball, stick or a duck. They love to have someone throw a toy and they will go get it and bring it back. They may not give it back to you but they have fun going to get it. They are usually good at swimming but I had one that almost drowned several times.
Grey Hounds like to run around chasing a rabbit and trying to win a race. It is what they like to do and they are very fast.
Husky sled dogs love to pull a sled. They like cold and they thrive in it. Running and pulling while they run is what they like to do and it is what they are bred for.
Poodles are water dogs. They have curly hair that keeps them warm when they go into the water. They have a hair cut designed to keep their joints warm as they dive into icy cold water. It is what they like to do.
St. Bernard’s are very large dogs with warm coats that are designed to find people in the cold. They have a good sense of smell and are able to stand the cold.
Dachshunds love to hunt for underground creatures. They are short and can fit into holes where other animals live. The dachshund can flush the underground creatures out of the holes by digging and getting into tight places. It is what they like to do.
Great Pyrenees are large and white and can look a lot like a sheep. They hang out with the flock to keep it safe.
These are just a few examples of what dogs are bred for doing. It is amazing how many dogs have been bred to help humans with the work they do.
