On, Monday February 10, 2014, I am happy to say that fashion designer Mischa Velasco did not disappoint. As promised she unveiled her 2014 Fall/Winter Women’s and Men’s Capsule Collection simply called “String Theory” for her fourth NYFW runway show. The event was held at the Top of the Garden which is located at 251 West 30th Street in the heart of Manhattan, I was one of many in the audience who were part of the experience.
Within her collection, Mischka Velasco used various textile combinations such as silk dupioni and cashmere. With these fabrics, she creates unforgettable patterns using her signature style in which combines the soft, yet delicate draping and very feminine style for the women’s collection. For the men, there were assorted color ensembles and plaid combinations with hidden pockets for menswear.
For this season’s show , Velasco worked with Fashion Show Producer Deshawn Colbert, Lead Makeup Artist Londone Trebor with their Sponsor Lamik Beauty & Hair by Talibah Stewart and team; music by Broadway Cellist Peter Sachon and recording artist Serena Tideman; live music was provided by DJ Hauke Couture.
Upon my review, it is clear that Ms. Velasco is very unique in her approach to fashion. In fact, her fashion skills were not just shaped by attending design school, but she also learned many techniques by teaching herself the art through trial and error. As a result of her innovative thinking as a creative artist, she constructs one of a kind pieces for men and women.
Velasco is truly one to watch and there is talk about one of her designs being worn on the red carpet for a major awards events in the future. With her drive, ingenuity and ability to think out of the box, designer Mischka Velasco’s creations will be a part of many other events and shows to come, and I hope to be a part of the audience once again.
