The Bob Dylan song “blowin’ in the wind” contains the lyrics :
“Yes, how many ears must one man have
Before he can hear people cry?
Yes, how many deaths will it take till he knows
That too many people have died?
The answer my friend is blowin’ in the wind
The answer is blowin’ in the wind”.
These lyrics always made me think about how we all pass all of the down and out members of our society and as they speak their little piece to us we just blow them off pretending we just can’t hear their plaintive cries for help. Some talk about homeless children or ill loved ones, but it might as well be in a foreign language, because we have our little piece of the pie and we just don’t deign to hear those who can’t get theirs.
I guess we didn’t hear our grade school teachers or ministers talking about equality and compassion either.
Well, the Democrats have been trying to pass legislation to get more of our people employed. The “Party of No” has obstructed this effort.
The article “Conyers’ Legacy Continues With Push for Jobs by Congress” details just one Democrat’s effort to help the 99% with jobs.
Let’s remember what the man with the bully pulpit, President Obama, has attempted.
The article states “Three years ago, the House leadership refused to allow a vote on the American Jobs Act, the President’s legislation that CBO said would create a million jobs and drop the unemployment rate by a full point. Now, the President has proposed an infrastructure program once again that could lead to a million new jobs. Once again, the House leadership will not allow a vote.”
The “Party of No” doesn’t care about your need for jobs 99%. Make it known at the polls that you understand who is looking out for you and vote for the Democrats.
Congressman John Conyers, Jr. (D-Michigan) in this article states “My most important bill is the Full Employment Act.”
This article states “He is asking members of Congress to co-sponsor HR 1000, his legislation, the Full Employment Act, and he has a hefty 57 co-sponsors so far.”
Congressman Conyers knows all of the tricks of Congress as the article states “The House leadership can stop members’ votes, but they cannot stop their co-sponsorships. It’s a way to get on record.”
Congressman Conyers remember his grade school and church services lessons as the article states “”The failure of the Congress to focus on jobs is not just a political blunder. It’s a dereliction of duty and has caused real human suffering,” he said.
Congressman Conyers knows of other ways to help in his quest. The article states he is “urging the Federal Reserve to act on the hidden part of its mandate… it is supposed not only to address inflation, but to generate “maximum employment.”
He got results as the article regarding Fed Chair Janet Yellen states “Yellen’s last news conference acknowledged this priority of the Fed’s role to create jobs.”
What can the Democrats do if the “Party of No” obstructs every effort to help the 99% with jobs? The Democrats hear our brothers’ cries for help and are trying to help.
