Delightful Reasons to Dine at Dish Bistro

by yak max

Washington County produces a huge array of regional foods and drinks. Driving through the pasture-covered hills, you can find farmers who grow delicious vegetables, raise animals on small, clean plots of land and offer up small quantities of high-quality food products.

Driving from farm to farm in Washington County wouldn’t reward you with much more than an empty gas tank, however. Actually being able to feast on all that the Washington County region has to offer is the greatest challenge to local residents. Local food maps are available of the agri-tourism spots in Washington County but getting all the food you need to make a meal can seem overwhelming. One farm produces milk, another vegetables and another meat. Intermittent Washington County local food festivals and famer’s markets with limited hours try, but if your timing isn’t right, it can hard to get your hands on some of these great foods.

Luckily, in 2010 a small restaurant called Dish Bistro opened up in Greenwich and has remained open (a great accomplishment considering the number of local businesses that come and go), offering a taste of northern New York’s Washington County products that delight all different kinds of diner’s palates.

A restaurant that specializes in local, organic food, Dish Bistro serves up gluten-free and vegetarian dishes in their small shop on Main Street in Greenwich. With a menu that changes seasonally and service that remains friendly, the small restaurant has developed a reputation for offering quality local food and regional wines.

The best thing about Dish Bistro is that it showcases all the best local Washington County foods at times when you want to eat and Greenwich is a town that is just a short drive away. It is a seemingly simple idea that has escaped regional farmers from experiencing more success in getting their local foods out to more people.

Because of their small size, less than 10 tables, the prices are a bit high and getting your food is a bit slow. Often there are just one or two people working at a time, responsible for all the food preparation and service. Neither is frustratingly inconvenient however, especially if you go to Greenwich knowing that dining at Dish Bistro is an opportunity to experience local Washington County bounty and not a cheap, industrial, fast-food restaurant.

Make the trip to Greenwich and savor the time spent in an atmosphere bathed in light and the walls covered with the work of local artists while you wait for a meal that is truly a unique taste of all that Washington County has to offer.
