A tradition my family has observed for decades is that on the first full day of a family members visit, we take them out to brunch at one of the innumerable delicious restaurants in the area. This allows us to all catch-up, without someone being left out as they prepare the meal. Since moving to the Springfield area, we’ve been quite pleased with the selection of brunch spots, but four really stand out.
Prime Time Sports Bar and Grill
To be quite open, my family enjoys a nice inebriating beverage now and then, so when we found out that Prime Time Sports Bar and Grill offered a brunch menu, the choice came natural. Offering much more than your standard bar menu, Prime Time opens up for customers at 7am every day but Monday, when they reward themselves a bit and wait until 11am to open. Located at 1360 Mohawk, Prime Time can be reached at 541-746-0549.
The Washburne Café
Located inside the historic Springfield Armory, The Washburne Café offers a splendid ambiance, good food, and fair prices. Open weekdays at 7:30am, and 8am the weekends, The Washburne is a beautiful location for family, friends, or even just yourself. With a large traditional breakfast menu, as well as baked goods and a full coffee service, they really have your entire morning ritual all in one place. Located at 326 Main Street, they can be reached at 541-746-7999.
Busy Bee Café
Touting service as their number one offering, Busy Bee Café offers a great food at even better prices. Open at 6am on weekdays and 7am on weekends, they are also one of the earlier options if you want good food, without having to go to one of the chain restaurants. Their caring staff is not only attentive, but will put a smile on your face even on the hardest of days. Located at 2152 Main Street, just east of where Main and South A join, you can reach them at 541-747-6331
Heritage Family Restaurant
Heritage Family Restaurant and I have a long and tenuous relationship. Over ten years ago while visiting, my family stopped in for a bite to eat at Heritage, and left very displeased even before our food got to us. The service was abysmal, people sitting near us were complaining about the food, and the prices were through the roof. That has all changed, thanks to the hard work of Heritage’s new management. After gearing up for a road trip, I stopped in to give it another shot, and left full, satisfied, and having left a well-deserved tip for the server. They have turned from a stain on the area, to a true asset, and deserve your business. They are located at 1414 Mohawk Boulevard, and can be reached at 541-726-1129. They are open Weekdays at 6:30am, Saturdays at 7am, and Sundays at 7:30am.
