World of Coca Cola
Did you know that one of the world’s most famous brands, Coca Cola, actually started in Atlanta? John Pemberton, a pharmacist, invented the drink in 1886 and died two years later. His business was sold to various parties, one of whom was Asa Candler, and Asa Candler expanding the business to what it is today.
The World of Coca Cola is a typical museum in one sense because there is a large section with memorabilia that is dedicated to the history of Coca Cola. One thing you will learn very quickly is that this is a company that has always been very focused on marketing. You will learn how the company brands itself in various countries.
The end of the museum is clearly the highlight as this is the “tasting room” where visitors get a free bottle of Coca Cola as well as the ability to try as many Coke beverages as they wish from all around the world. In fact, you will probably have stomach issues after drinking so many carbonated beverages at one time.
If you are traveling to Atlanta during baseball season, I would highly suggest taking in a Braves game, especially a day game. The Atlanta Braves are the #1 franchise in Atlanta, if not the entire Southeastern United States, and won so many NL pennants in the 1990s that they are often called “the team of the 90s”.
It is at Turner Field that you will get a chance to see what people from Atlanta are really like. Atlantans are a very diverse crowd, from all walks of life, and there are also many transplants from other parts of the country. This baseball team is still very good and even if you are not a baseball fan, you will find many ways to keep yourself entertained just by the sheer number of people there and the excitement of the crowd.
Georgia Aquarium was the largest aquarium in the world until Ocean Kingdom in Hengqin Island, China usurped it. The non-profit aquarium also has one of the highest admissions charges of any aquarium in the United States at around $40, but it is well worth it.
The diversity of wildlife at this aquarium is huge and there are always many wildlife shows occurring at various places in the facility. Another highlight is the show “Dolphin Tales”, which requires a separate ticket. You will see a lot of spectacular dolphin tricks at this show.
