If you’re like me, you enjoy a variety of different juices, smoothies and other indulgences that juice bars have to offer. One of the main reasons I frequent these establishments, especially when I am traveling is because it gives me the opportunity to spend my money at a lot privately owned and operated small businesses while putting something healthy into my body. Unless I choose to indulge in something not-so-healthy. Often, these home-grown business use locally grown produce and vegetables. Nine times out of 10, these ingredients are all organically grown and cultivated also, which is extremely important to me.
I travel through Daytona Beach, Florida, more often than not, and one of my first stops while I am there is to the Kale Cafe.
The Kale Cafe
Nestled in with many other local businesses. With a great location right across the street from Riverfront Park and the Halifax River, the decently-sized cafe not only offers a healthy assortment of juices and smoothies also offers customers entrees, sides, soups and salads, with a Jamaican flavor . All prepared using organic ingredients, on the spot and without GMOs. I highly recommend the Green Juice. A great place with friendly staff. The only downside is that they’re not open on Sundays.
Tropical Smoothie Cafe
Not too far from US 1 and the Halifax River sits another nice establishment that I enjoy. It lacks the feel of the independently owned and operated Kale Cafe it makes up for in convenience. The ability to call ahead makes it easier for people on the go. Being open on Sundays also affords customers visiting for the weekend the chance to enjoy their items.
Tropical Smoothie Cafe offers a decent-sized menu as well. Full of choices from breakfast to salads and wraps but it’s their selection of smoothies that is most impressive. A couple of dozen different smoothies at least which offers something for pretty much everyone, all for an affordable price. It’s a popular place and staff can be a bit inattentive at times but they have gotten a lot better.
Fresh Healthy Cafe
Located just south of the Daytona International Airport is the Fresh Healthy Cafe. This cafe might be my favorite of all and it’s the worth the ten minutes of extra driving to get there. Not only does the cafe offer take out, it offers delivery and has outdoor seating, which is nice during the cooler months. An extremely affordable menu with delicious wraps, breakfast items, paninis, salads and friendly staff make visiting a great experience. Be sure to try their Cold Terminator. A blend of carrots and oranges with ginger mixed in.
Love Whole Foods
If you venture further down Williamson Blvd., you’ll discover Love Whole Foods Cafe & Market. I pride myself on putting healthy ingredients into my body as much as I can and when I’m in the Daytona Beach area, I generally stop in to Love’s. Not just for their amazing smoothies (the Blueberry Monster is to die for) but for the opportunity to pick up organically grown fruits and veggies and hormone free meats while I’m there. If you take vitamins and supplements, they have those too. It’s a nice, friendly place to grab a smoothie, have a chat and shop for something healthy.
