Planning a backyard barbecue does not have to be a huge chore. It can actually be a lot of fun, if you take a little bit of time to plan ahead. So I thought it would be a good idea to put together some fun ideas to help with the barbecue planning.
Put Jars to good use
One of the biggest issues with having a barbecue outside is that you have a hard time keeping the fruit and vegetables cool and fresh. Usually about an hour into the barbecue you end up with mushy fruit, and vegetables that are warm. One way that I have found that works well it to use large candy type jars. Fill each of the jars with fruit and vegetables. Then place the jars into the pans and around the jars put a bunch of ice. Pour a tablespoon of vinegar onto the ice. Sometimes this helps to keep the ice colder longer. Put all of the items into a shaded area. You can keep replenishing the ice as needed. Place spoons outside next to it so that they can scoop out the fruit. Or you can use tongs to pick out the vegetables.
A serving station makes it easier for your guests to find the items that they need whenever they need it. Using some PCV piping you can construct a stand to hang little child size buckets. Inside of the buckets you can place napkins, forks, knives, spoons, and cups. Place the stand inside of a large plastic bin. You can have several buckets each with different items. This makes it easier to keep track of what items need .
Plastic buckets for Kabobs
I know that this may sound a little weird but it really does work great for a backyard party in the summer. I have found that kabobs with a variety of vegetables and meat on them work great. This enables everyone to talk around and eat, talk, and have fun. Using plastic kids buckets that have been thoroughly cleaned, you can line with foil first. Then place the fresh off the grill skewers into the bucket. This way your guests can help themselves and the foil in the buckets will keep the kabobs nice and warm. It’s a nice way to add a splash of color to a party and keep food warm at the same time.
The inflatable drink cooler
I love the idea of the inflatable drink cooler. This type of cooler makes it easy to clean up at eh end of the day. You just inflate it, add some ice and then you can add some drinks. If you put this cooler in a shaded area, the entire thing will stay nice and cool. The nice thing about the inflatable coolers is that you can put them away easily and save for the next party.
