Mason jars are a great way to present a gift to a friend or relative. You might have seen some unique “gift in a jar” ideas, from brownie and cookie mix to beans for soup – not to mention all the non-food gifts. These are fun, inexpensive presents to give for holidays and special occasions. They are even more unique when a decorative touch is added. Even if you don’t consider yourself the creative type, these ideas to decorate mason jars for gift giving are easy enough for the least crafty among us.
Decorate a mason jar with ribbon
Ribbon is simple enough to figure out; cut a piece that is long enough to go around the lid once (or even twice!) and then a little more. You can either use scissors to curl the two ends, or tie them into a cute little bow. Easy peasy – the only difficulty you might encounter is trying to get the ribbon to stay in place while tying the ends together. Ask someone to help hold it if needed.
Decorate the mason jar lid with fabric
A small piece of patterned fabric adds a creative touch to the lid of the mason jar. You have two options. The first is to trace the lid onto a piece of fabric and cut out the circle. Place the circle on top of the lid, securing it in place with the outer ring, before placing the lid on the jar. The second option is to do the same thing, only cutting a square piece of fabric so it hangs below the ring part of the lid.
Add a splash of color with scrapbook paper
Don’t have any fabric on hand? Use scrapbook paper instead! Trace the lid onto the back of a piece of scrapbook paper, cut out the circle, and secure it in place between the lid and the outer ring. Add a piece of coordinating ribbon to the lid for a little extra flair.
Paint the mason jar for gift giving
A coat of paint will hide the contents of the mason jar, while adding a decorative touch. A couple coats of spray paint should provide a nice, even finish. Metallic colors, like gold and silver, give jars a neat look. Even better if you are able to find a glittery metallic paint to decorate your mason jars for gift giving.
