Real or fake wildflowers
Florist pins or hot glue and wooden skewer
Image all of the things that you can buy for the wedding, or for your new home, when you don’t buy a veil. I’m not suggesting that you don’t have a veil or headpiece; I’m merely saying that you don”t have to spend money on one. Anybody can make a gorgeous wedding headpiece – of real flowers – when they pick the flowers, and assemble them. A wildflower wedding headpiece is stunning, easy to make, and all but free.
Your one real expense for the wildflower headpiece is a wreath from a craft store. The bare wreath – a Styrofoam circle – is lightweight and costs about a buck or so. Choose one that is slightly larger than you need; the addition of the flowers will make it fit perfectly. You’ll wear the Styrofoam ring on top of your head after creating the look that you want. The flowers can be ones that you picked yourself, ones from a florist, or can even be fake flowers from a craft store. If you’re using artificial flowers, make the headpiece anytime, but if you’re using real flowers, make it the night before the wedding.
Besides the Styrofoam wreath you’ll need hot glue for fake flowers and florist pins for real ones. If you’re using real flowers, grab a few, lay them against the wreath form, and pin them there. Continue doing that to create the headpiece design that you love. If you’re using artificial flowers, poke a hole with an implement – such as a toothpick or wooden skewer – and fill it with hot glue. Push the flower(s) into the hole and let the glue dry.
There are so many different headpieces that you can make with the Styrofoam ring and wildflowers. One is done by simply creating a wreath of your own design and wearing it. Another is done to look like a cap of flowers. Yet another is a cap of flowers, but the flowers not only cover the top of the head, they hang down to the end of the neck, creating more of a shoulder veil look.
Even a simplistic veil or headpiece can cost a hundred bucks and that money can buy more food for the wedding reception, a larger photo package, or something new for your first home. Your headpiece will look lovely, and your wedding will be gorgeous, so go and pick those wildflowers!
