Coppertone Clearly Sheer Sunscreen Review

by yak max

Before I begin my review for Coppertone Clearly Sheer sunscreen, I wanted to give some background information about the company, Coppertone.

Established in 1944, Coppertone is a company that specializes in sunscreen products. Their products cover a wide range of sunscreen needs: Adults, children, lotions, sprays, and sensitive skin. Also, their products are packaged in various sizes making it convenient for consumers to carry around, and the average cost is about seven dollars.

The test package I was sent included the following Coppertone Clearly Sheer sunscreen products: (1) 5 oz. SPF 30 lotion; (2) 1.6 oz. SPF 50 sprays; and (3) 1 oz. SPF 30 lotions.

The packaging of the large lotion is about half the size of your average body wash. The bottle is white with a silver/gray cap, and a curvy groove making it more comfortable to hold during application. The logo is a combination of blue, yellow, and orange giving it a clean appearance. There is a peel away label on the back which is easy to open and close for ingredient listings and usage information. The packaging of the spray is a little different as far as colors are concerned; however, it is still recognizable as a Coppertone product, and the can is about the size of your average pepper spray can. Both the lotion and spray can easily fit into a handbag or backpack.

I have extremely sensitive skin, so I was immediately drawn to the idea this product doesn’t cause breakouts, is lightweight, and moisturizes the skin.

Fifteen minutes prior to going outside, I would apply the SPF 30 lotion. Because it moisturizes the skin, I actually replaced my everyday lotion with the sunscreen. I love how the lotion was not heavy and easily absorbed into my skin. Some sunscreens take forever to rub in, and this product was the complete opposite.

Even though I have used sunscreen products prior to this, my biggest pet peeve about them was their scent. They always smell like bug spray or like death itself. However, I was pleasantly surprised the lotion smelled like fresh baby powder, and it did a great job at moisturizing my skin like baby lotion, too. The lotion adds a little shine to your skin, but nothing as dramatic as an oil slick. I was hesitant to apply the lotion to my face because of my sensitive skin, but once I did I had absolutely no breakouts and I didn’t turn red.

For reapplication, I would use the spray because it was quicker to just spray and go. The spray does leave a shine, but once I rubbed it in the shine diminished. However, unlike the lotion, the spray does not leave a pleasant odor in my opinion. It reminds me of a mixture of bug spray and hair salon. Not a great combination.

The only cons I found when using this product is that the spray does not smell as great as the lotion. The fresh powder scent you get from the lotion completely disappeared from the spray. However, the upside is that the smell of the spray disappears rather quickly. If you’re someone who doesn’t mind the smell of the spray then it probably will not be a problem for you, but if you’re someone like me with sensitive allergies, then your best bet is to stick with the lotion. Another con was how bad the sunscreen burns your eyes. I had applied the lotion to my face and at some point rubbed my eyes, and let me tell you it burned like crazy. It took me at least 23-30 minutes just for the burning sensation to disappear.

I genuinely enjoyed using Coppertone Clearly Sheer sunscreen because I have extremely sensitive skin, and I was able to use this without harsh breakouts or damaging my skin. The product is easy to rub in, it keeps the skin nourished for long periods, and doesn’t smell like the walking dead. I would highly recommend this product to anyone shopping around for sunscreen.
