One of my fiancé’s friends is a naturopath and has classes on a weekly basis. I have been to a couple of these classes which teach a lot about cleansing. Cleansing is where the human body needs some relief when the system is being overworked or is backed up. Cleansing can be done in multiple ways; fasting, drinking lots of water, having a strict diet and taking certain herbs. From this class I took part in a cleanse to clear my system. Within the first three days, I was already feeling a lot more alert and full of energy, which just goes to show how effective they can be in such a short time. Not many people have much information on cleanses, so here are five things you likely don’t already know.
Cleansing can be bad for your health if done at the wrong time
By doing certain cleanses at the wrong times in the year, the cleansing effect can have a negative impact on your health. For example, performing a kidney cleanse can be greatly beneficial in order to flush out your system by increasing the amount of water you typically drink. Most of the time this would be perfectly fine but, in the cold of winter, this can cause your immune system to weaken and make you more susceptible to colds and flu.
Cleansing one part of the body could help another
Most cleanses involve fasting as this is the most efficient way of clearing the body and controlling your food intake. Most people don’t realize that cleansing other organs in the body can help their parent organs. During one of the class sessions that I attended, there was someone with a heart problem; the teacher of the classes recommended that they cleanse their small intestines as the heart was the parent organ to the small intestines. She explained that most organs have a parent or child organ which will usually show signs and can be helped by fixing issues with their relation. Some examples of the parents to organs are; heart to small intestines, stomach to spleen, large intestine to lungs, bladder to kidneys, and gall bladder to liver.
Cleansing is not highly supported by the medical community
In the medical community, cleansing is very rarely prescribed as an actual method of detoxification. Most professionals will regard fasting as a dangerous way of becoming healthy or losing weight especially when it is stretched over a long period of time. A lot of experts will try to turn you away from cleansing and point out potential risks; however, cleanses are still quite commonly carried out.
Cleansing doesn’t involve an exercise regimen
A strong point to cleansing is that it can be healthy for the body and offers an alternative to exercise. Not having to exercise is an attractive alternative to anyone who doesn’t want to exercise or can’t for medical reasons. Exercising during certain cleanses can be pretty dangerous if the exercises are too vigorous as you are taking in minimum calories with just lemonade and water. A person taking part in a cleanse should typically try and conserve their energy even if they are feeling more energetic. Meditation can be good as well as some yoga to keep your body moving. When I took part in my cleanse, I would do my typical work out regime of 20 pushups in the morning which worked out really well as I was getting up in the morning being wide awake.
Something which is rarely mentioned in the celebrity world is how some celebrities keep their amazing figures and look so good. Some celebrities cleanse as it is a really effective way to lose weight without having a lot of effect on their lifestyle. Recently a new film called Dreamgirls which stars Beyonce has gotten some attention as she used a cleanse to slim down for the movie. There are many examples of celebrities name dropping different diet or detox methods, so this isn’t unheard of but goes to show that, even in the celebrity world, cleansing is a proven technique to lose weight and stay healthy.
I hope you have learned something new about cleansing; the choice remains yours if you believe this is a healthy technique or if you would consider it dangerous. If you do choose to try a cleanse, as with any diet technique, be sure to research the topic well.
