Choosing the Right Invitation for a Spring 2014 Wedding

by yak max

Spring is a time for beautiful weather, romance, and weddings, and one of the most important components of a wedding is the invitation. The invitation a couple (or the bride) chooses establishes the theme of the wedding to the guests and can set the overall tone of the entire wedding.

Design

The design of one’s invitation is very important. Design is one of the first things guests will notice about your invitation. Whether in reference to the calligraphy or the artwork of the invitation, it is important that time and attention are given to the design and detail of a wedding invitation. During the spring 2014 wedding season, attention to detail is vital when selecting the right wedding invitation. One of the most popular trends during the spring is floral print. Spring is a time for blossoming flowers, and flowers are a common trend on wedding invitations. Whether the flower is a traditional rose or another romantic flower, a couple can never go wrong with selecting an invitation which incorporates flowers, one of the most iconic symbols of spring and love. Another important element of design is calligraphy. When we think of a “romantic font,” we often think of a form of script. Therefore, during this spring wedding season, couples should select a form of script when selecting the calligraphy of their invitations.

Color

The second popular trend for spring wedding invitations is the use of bright colors and pastels. Spring is a time for light colors and softer tones, and invitation colors are no different. The most popular colors of spring wedding invitations are pink, yellow, and cream or ivory. However, it is important that the color chosen for invitations coordinate with the overall color scheme of the wedding. Every detail of the invitation from the color of the cardstock to the color of the font should mesh well together. Popular combinations which work well together are ivory cardstock with silver borders and pink lettering. This combination of colors or a combination similar in kind is bound to catch the eye of guests and can coincide with many wedding themes.

Accents

Another common trend among spring wedding invitations is the use of accents on the invitations themselves. A cute detail brides like to incorporate into their invitations is a bow or ribbon of some kind. The bow or ribbon can be adhered to either the invitation or the RSVP card, and they add an element of fun and elegance.

Themes and Wedding Styles

Although many of the ideas and trends previously mentioned can work for a variety of weddings, it is important that brides and grooms establish a theme before selecting any details of the wedding. For instance, a beach wedding may want to choose a shade of blue for their calligraphy and a soft blue flower as the detail for the wedding. On the other hand, a garden wedding can use any colored flower but might benefit from green calligraphy. Selecting a wedding invitation provides a bride and groom the opportunity to get creative and to give their guests a hint as to the theme of the wedding, and there are many paths that can be chosen.

Although choosing the right wedding invitation is an important component in the wedding planning process, it should also be a fun process. Couples should take their selections seriously, but they should also have fun while doing it. While many choose the traditional route when selecting an invitation, it is also okay for a couple to choose an unconventional design because the wedding invitation is a reflection of the wedding which is a reflection of the couple.
