Gazing at Charlize, you see a statuesque beauty with a strong sense of self-confidence and a heart of gold. Below the surface, she is extremely passionate about a number of causes that need tremendous social awareness in order to be tackled properly.
On Monday evening, May 5, 2014, Charlize Theron walked the Red Carpet on the arm of seasoned actor, Sean Penn, as they made their way into the celebrity-filled halls of the annual Met Gala in New York City. Looking as lovely as ever in a strapless black and white Dior Couture gown, her Fred Leighton jewelry catching the flash of the cameras, Charlize has so much to be proud of.
At 38 years old, she is an exceptional actress, producer, director and model. Her smile glistens as she speaks of her adopted son Jackson, who is the center of her universe. However, many people do not realize the depth of her passion and just how far her love stretches.
Charlize is a staunch supporter of 25 charities and admired advocate of 24 causes. As a native of South Africa, she understands the plights of her people. Easily having that celebrity edge, it assists her in spreading awareness and educating those who can help make a difference.
Putting her heart and soul into every aspect of her endeavors, she reaches for the stars and attains the moon. Some of the charities and foundations that she has supported over the years include American Foundation for AIDS Research , Artists For Peace & Justice, Best Friends Animal Society, Community Inspiring Today’s Youth, Global Green, Project Angel Food, National Center For Missing & Exploited Children, Red Cross and Stand Up To Cancer. She is an animal rights activist and active member of PETA.
More importantly, causes that Theron speaks out on behalf of are AIDS and HIV, cancer, at-risk and disadvantaged youth, the creative arts, human rights, rape and sexual abuse, homelessness, water, human trafficking, world hunger, poverty and the environment and that only skims the surface.
What gives Charlize Theron that admirable quality that embodies her world and makes her successful in all aspects of her life, is the passion and drive that she puts into everything that she undertakes. Winning an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award and numerous other awards, her real love and feat of accomplishment comes from knowing that she has helped others who need it the most and may not be able to cry out for help on their own. She has an unconditional fervor to stop injustice in this world and speak on behalf of those who cannot speak for themselves. One of the greatest recognition reminders was when Charlize was appointed United Nations Messenger of Peace in 2009. It served as an honor of just how strong her voice had become as she focused on HIV Prevention and the elimination of violence against women. Her love for her native country goes far beyond words. She was determined and steadfast in her efforts to assist the Rape Crisis Center in Cape Town when the government would not willfully disclose just how many rapes are committed each year in South Africa.
Perhaps the cause that she is most ardent about is the charity that she personally founded and has continued to concentrate on without any hesitation. The Africa Outreach Project is the direct result of Charlize’s concern and dedication to the youth of Africa and established in 2007. She created this project to help keep African youth safe from HIV/AIDS by supporting community-engaged organizations that address the key drivers of the disease. If you were to ask what drives the success of this initiative, it is clear that it takes integrity, respect, collaboration, continuous education, exploration and that strong belief that we are all equal and can take responsibility to help each other. Other celebrities who have come to the aid of this project and are staunch supporters include Oprah, Alyssa Milano, Sienna Miller and Ashton Kutcher.
Charlize manages to balance motherhood, championing the many causes that she believes in, being the face of and spokeswoman for ‘J’Adore’ Christian Dior campaign and acting. The combination of all these parts keeps her young and vibrant and drives her even further. There is much more in the works as well. Besides raising awareness in so many worthwhile areas, she is currently producing and starring in ‘Dark Places’ as well as starring in ‘A Million Ways to Die in the West’. Looking ahead to 2015, we can expect to see her in ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ and collaborating with Sean Penn, the attested gentleman in her life, on ‘The Last Face’ in which she plays a doctor doing humanitarian work in Africa amidst the political conflicts that ensue in the country.
Confirmation that Sean and Charlize are a couple is also confirmation that they are a powerhouse of not only their devotion to each other but a devotion to the belief that we can all rise to the occasion to save the world with dignity and respect for all one step at a time.
