Talk about a shocking elimination!
Last week, longtime “Dancing With the Stars” co-host Brooke Burke-Charvet broke the news of the upcoming season’s first ousting via a Twitter post that said, “Weird day … Shocking pre-season elimination #DWTS …ME. Tom Bergeron didn’t even read my name. I won’t be returning to the show this season.”
Now, Us Weekly has revealed that Fox Sports reporter Erin Andrews has been tapped to take over the “DWTS” co-host role this season. But does the seasoned sports journalist have what it takes to fill Burke-Charvet’s “Dancing” shoes? We do a comparison!
Burke-Charvet and her pro partner Derek Hough won Season 6 of “Dancing with the Stars.”
Andrews and her pro partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy placed third during Season 10 of the show.
Past Hosting Gigs
Burke Charvet: Early in her career, the former model started out hosting E!’s “Wild On!” She went on to nab several more hosting gigs, including two seasons on CBS reality competition “Rock Star,” as well as a hosting stint on the TV modeling competition “She’s Got the Look.” She also co-hosted the past three Miss America pageants with Chris Harrison.
Andrews: In addition to her role on Fox Sports, Andrews was a reporter for ESPN. Earlier this year she made headlines for a viral interview she did with NFL player Richard Sherman following the NFC Championship Game. She’s also been a guest co-host on the daytime chat fest “Live With Michael and Kelly.”
In 2012, Burke-Charvet was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. The mom of four announced her health scare to her fans by posting a video on her Modern Mom YouTube channel with a message that she would undergo thyroid surgery. During an appearance on Katie Couric’s talk show, she later said, “Minus the scar, I’m pretty darn lucky and happy. I took a whole month off, which is big for me because I’ve never done that. … I relaxed and caught up on some great movies and had some downtime with my family and read a little bit and really just slowed down and let my body heal.”
Andrews had a different kind of scare. In 2009 she was a victim of a stalking incident when insurance exec Michael Barrett secretly shot nude videos of her through hotel room peepholes. After the videos were leaked online, Andrews filed an invasion of privacy lawsuit. She later told ESPN she still gets heckled about the incident, and said, “It’s my body on the Internet. I’m being traumatized every single day for what he did. … This will never be over for me.”
Burke-Charvet knows all about getting glammed up for “DWTS,” and as co-host she dazzled in gorgeous gowns every week. She told OK Magazine she did several big pulls and fittings with a stylist for the show, then whittled the choices down to 20 dresses before making her final choice. Burke-Charvet compared the weekly process to “getting ready for awards season twenty times in ten weeks.”
Andrews wowed viewers with her glitzy outfits on her season of “DWTS,” but she’s best known for her sideline style. For her 2014 Super Bowl look, she chose a gorgeous purple Burberry coat and boots, and dished to Glamour, “It’s the Super Bowl in NYC. Who says you can’t be warm and look fabulous?” But Andrews definitely knows how to rock a red carpet, too.
“Dancing With the Stars” Season 18 premieres on March 17.
