The aptly named Jun 14, 2010 article “A Democratic President Would Never Have Invaded Iraq — Now Obama is Stuck in Iraq and Trying to Rapidly Deploy Our Troops from There” portrayed that President Obama never wanted the US to invade Iraq.
The lead sentence summed it up well as it stated “An enemy of the US –Iran is going to be the big winner in this as indicated in the article “When it comes to Iraq, Iran loves a power vacuum” or W’s Incompetency has made us less Safe.”
The four year old article stated what is happening now “While Bahgdad struggles to form a government, Tehran is hoping to swoop in and make sure it has some influence over its neighbor.”
What a disaster Bush 43 led us into. His neocon pals knew it would happen. They probably envisioned more wars after Iraq.
Let’s remember that in the Iraq – Iran war the US supported Iraq because it feared Iran more. Many contemporaneous articles also contemplated the Shiites of Iran helping out their Iraqi brethren-at the expense of the US and the Middle East.
The article stated “If the Iraqi government is put together shoddily, if it is established by extremists from either Sunni or Shiite camps, ethnic strife will wipe out any achievements over the past few years, outgoing Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki told The Washington Post recently.”
The Shiites, Sunnis and Kurds have been massacring each other since the beginning of time. Why would the US not expect sectarian strife?
Back in the Jul 11, 2011 article “If the GOP Wins the Next Presidential Election Then They Will Change History so that W Didn’t Cause Recession or Lie Us into the Iraq Front of ‘GWOT’ — They Have the Proles Conditioned to Believe Their Propaganda” we anticipated how the GOP would try to befuddle red staters.
The article “GWOT is GOP’s Version of 1984‘s Perpetual War — Rove and Cheney Use 1984 Concepts to Defend Their Administration” amplified how the GOP uses misinformation to alter reality for political gain.
The article “Iraq Descends Into Bloody Factional Chaos: Bush and Cheney Should Be Tried for War Crimes” articulates what we should do now with the neocons in the Bush 43 administration! Let’s show the world we will punish the criminals.
The article states “Mission accomplished, George W. Bush swaggeringly declared on the stage set of an aircraft carrier those many years ago. It was supposed to be the shining moment of neocon triumph, the ultimate assertion of United States hegemony and military power as an empire. “
It amplifies that fact that we’ll work with Iran-our greatest enemy in the area, as the article states “The situation has deteriorated so badly in Iraq, and a radical fundamentalist is – by some accounts – on the verge of seizing Baghdad, that Iran and the US are discussing cooperating to prevent the seizure of Baghdad. As Reuters reports, ” Shi’te Muslim Iran is so alarmed by Sunni insurgent gains in Iraq that it may be willing to cooperate with Washington in helping Baghdad fight back, a senior Iranian official told Reuters.””
The article concludes that “As the Republicans continue to yammer on about Benghazi, the neocons responsible for war crimes go unprosecuted – and the horror unleashed on the Iraqi people is once again opened, like an infected wound that never has healed.”
The oil men in Bush 43’s administration lusted after Iraq’s oil. We would never have been in Iraq if it wasn’t for the sea of oil it possessed.
The US should do the responsible thing and prosecute those who lied us into an unneeded war in Iraq.
Yes, our red staters have had tripe like Benghazi yammered about for so long that those responsible for the nightmare that Bush 43 unleashed on the Iraqis–as well as the losses of blood and treasure to the US, might go unpunished.
Right-wing propagandists will try to blame the Iraq tragedy on President Obama. Remember that they got red staters to believe Hussein was involved in 9/11. What swill won’t they propagate to the misinformed red staters?
