In stark contrast to what many Internet marketers believe, article marketing definitely has the potential to make a dramatic change in any online business that takes their article marketing business seriously. It seems the idea of building a long lasting and secure business by creating articles that are interesting and informative isn’t the approach some Internet marketers care to take. This is very understandable because it happens the business model for some forms of Internet marketing are different enough to warrant a completely different business approach. For now, however, and for the purpose of this article, I will limit my discussion to article marketing.
Quite often, writers have researched a topic so well, they know much more than what could fit into one article. Having said that, they produce several articles on one subject, but each one discusses a different subset of that topic. Covering a subject thoroughly is a great idea because it lends well to the writer’s competence in the field. One mistake to avoid is try not to overlap too much or the article will lose its purpose.
Building a strong foundation for an online business isn’t easy, regardless of what you read from the gurus trying to take your money. I’m tired of reading this hype because I know what it takes to build a solid online business, and the hard sell isn’t one of them. Instead, developing a plan based on sound, proven principles and then executing that plan is the fastest, surest way to achieve your business goals. Article marketing is perhaps the most effective, long-term strategy devised to build your online business. A commitment to the success of your business is the single most important ingredient for success, beyond any other technique other than dedication and determination to see your business flourish. If you’re tempted to somehow circumvent the necessary steps for success, just remember all successful businesses are grounded in reality and the everyday work required for growth and staying power. With regard to your articles, here are a few tips that put to shame some of the claims that help your articles rank better.
Bolded or “strong” text
One myth that still seems to come up is the search engines will rank your work higher if you use strong or bolded text within the body. This simply isn’t true. The engines rank on content and the originality and quality of the content, not how the article “looks” to the reader. So, if you use bolded text or italics, do so for your reader’s benefit, not the engines.
Keep your keyword density to a minimum
The keyword density topic is still around and is keeping many writers from having success with their articles. That’s because only a few years ago, keyword density was a huge issue with regard to search engine rankings. The truth is the major search engines don’t put nearly the emphasis on keywords as they once did. Instead, they now focus on the words that relate to the subject of the article, or LSIs (Latent Semantic Indexing). Keywords are still useful, but be sure to include words that relate to the keywords in order to give your reader and the engines a good understanding of your article.
This is another myth to do away with. Meta tags contain the keywords of your article and at one time were vital to rankings. The major search engines have stopped altogether using the information here to rate your article. Keywords, especially LSI words, are the key factors to determine how to index your article.
Use these tips to further your article marketing success and to help build your article marketing business. Just keep writing great content, day after day, and you will eventually develop your own brand. Your readers will get to know you and your brand, and will look forward to reading your material. Remember always to write for your readers first, the engines second.
