Ronnie J. Dio rose to fame in bands like Rainbow and Black Sabbath. When Ozzy was fired from Black Sabbath in 1979, fans speculated if anyone would be able to replace the insanely high pitched vocals of the dark rocker. Dio rose to the occasion and then some with his powerful voice. Dio would see much success over his career. His stage antics were wild and people often compared him to a wizard who cast spells on his audiences. Dio’s voice was powerful and high at once. His vocal stylings have since been unmatched. The legendary vocalist would pass away in 2010 due to complications with stomach cancer. His voice still echoes in the minds of fans everywhere.
Another vocalist who rose to fame in the 70’s was Paul Stanley of the shock rock band, KISS. Stanley was always unique but his voice truly came into its full potential in the 1980’s and 90’s. His amazing ability to hold and vibrate notes at the same time is unmatched. In the unplugged version of “I Still Love you” Stanley holds a vibrating note for well over thirteen seconds. No other singer has been able to match Stanley’s pitches in cover versions of classic KISS tunes. The singer has been going strong for well over forty years and lacks much of his old power but can still hit some wild notes on stage.
Creed called it quits in 2003. Many fans had one main issue with the band, vocalist Scott Stapp. The band found a new vocalist and direction and formed Alter Bridge with Myles Kennedy. Influences of Axle Rose and Dio can be heard in Myles’ voice. He boast a nasally yet sturdy vocal style. With much of his power coming from the back of his throat, Myles can hold notes far longer than most singers. His vocal range is still undefined as he always finds ways to surprise fans. This singer may have yet to hit his peak.
