Before teen shows had to rely on heavily sexual situations and musical numbers to amuse the youth of the world, there was Boy Meets World. The show ran for seven seasons and followed our favorite youngsters from middle school all the way through college. When the show ended in the year 2000, many fans thought that would be the last we’d see of Cory, Shawn, Eric, Topanga and Jack. The new show will be titled Girl Meets World.
A few years ago, it was announced to the world that a sequel to the series was in the works. The idea was to catch up with Cory and his wife Toganga a decade after the events of Boy Meets World. The central focus of the show would be their young daughter.
In November of 2012, fans of the show praised the direction of the proposed show when it was announced that Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel would be reprising their roles as our favorite couple. In keeping with that trend, Michael Jacobs has since reached out to most of the original show’s cast to see who may be interested in reprising their old roles. Many of said stars have expressed great interest in returning.
It seems that the show is coming together nicely. Rowan Blanchard has since been cast as Riley Matthews, the daughter of Cory and Topanga. It is rumored that Cory will be a history teacher who looks after his daughter during her wild school adventures. We also know that Riley’s best friend will be heavily featured. The role of her best pal will be taken on by Sabrina Carpenter. While no details have been leaked, we can assume that she will be the cooler of the two in the same light as Shawn Hunter’s friendship with Riley’s father, Cory.
Although we do not know much about the new show, fans can’t help but be excited. Many fans of the original series will tune in for nostalgia sake. Other fans are old enough to have their own children who will tune into the show. We will be passing our beloved show’s sequel down to the new generation. It is very exciting that we may not only see reunions of some of our favorite characters but our children will be able to share a link with their childhood and our own.
The show is set to debut on Disney Channel on June 27th of this year. I personally cannot wait to see the new program. I’ll be sure to get my nephew hooked on it just as I was hooked on the misadventures of the Matthews clan in my own childhood. I cannot wait to tune in and see how the show turns out this June.
