It seems as though everyone is wanting to get in shape with summer quickly approaching. Guys want to have rock hard abs to impress the ladies and girls often want to look attractive in a swimsuit for the beach season. I’ve gathered a few workouts to help you reach these goals and I hope with them you’ll be able to get in shape for yourself or for that special someone.
The first exercise I’ll be going over is called the side plank, which is a great way to tone your abs. If you stay in the side plank position you’ll also be working your core a lot harder than just doing a traditional plank. To start, get on the floor and lie on your side with your forearm and elbow holding you up, use your opposite arm to grab your shoulder across your chest. Keep your core contracted and hold that position for about half a minute. Once you’re done, switch to your other side.
The second exercise is the bicycle crunch. It’s known as one of the top ab exercises you can do and it shows results rather quickly. Doing these allows both your upper and lower abs to be toned. Start by laying on the ground with your hands behind your head, extend your left leg straight while you keep your other leg bent. Next touch your left elbow to your right knee. Keep repeating this motion for 10 reps and then alternate to your other leg and arm.
The third workout is called wood chops. You’ll be needing either a dumbbell, resistance bands, or a cable machine for this. Try to use as much weight as you can or the highest resistance to get the full effect of the workout, I personally prefer to use resistance bands in a doorway myself. Take ahold of the handles and hold them at about the height of your shoulders, take a couple steps back from the door. Be sure your feet are spread a few feet apart. Hold the handles in your hands and bring them from your left side to your right side in a chopping motion, sort of like you’re cutting a tree down with an axe. Remember to be sure to keep your body core tight throughout the whole motion, this is very important. Proceed to do this about 12 reps on each side and do however many sets you can handle
The final ab workout are side crunches using a fitness ball. Place your right hip tightly on the fitness ball and lean onto it, be sure your entire waist is laying on top of the ball. Try to keep your body stable by placing your feet on a solid structure or a wall. Next, place each hand on the sides of your head and contract your left abdominal muscles, lift your waist up from the fitness ball as far as possible. Hold your body up for 3 to 5 seconds, keep your muscles tightened throughout this, and then lower yourself back down to the position you started in. Do this for 12 reps before switching to your left side.
These are obviously just a few of the effective exercises you can do to help tone your abs and help you achieve your body image goal. It doesn’t matter whether you want to just stay fit during cold months or look good for the summer months, these workouts will help you have your ideal body. I wish everyone great luck on reaching their goals, make sure to eat healthy and have enough protein in your diet to help build strong muscles.
