I became a travel agent about nine months ago. There are not nearly as many travel agents as there used to be and more than 75 percent of all booking for travel occurs online. Anyone can become a travel agent, and they are usually commissioned. Now, let’s talk about some tips and advice I have learned over my experiences.
The number one piece of advice I can tell you is that you will want to have a travel agent. Travel agents can be expensive sometimes, but they are completely worth it. No matter what problems you may face, your agent will be there to help you. So instead of sitting on hold with an airline for an hour, you call your agent and see what’s up. Everything is set up for you and made a lot easier.
Another piece of advice is to make sure that if you are going out of your home country that you have a passport that expire 6 or more months after the date that you return. Many countries are now requiring that you have a passport with those qualifications. Also, if you plan to do a lot of walking, which you most likely will do a lot of, wear a really comfortable pair of shoes or boots. Aches and pains can ruin a trip very quickly, and by not only being pain free but actually enjoy the pair of footwear you have, it will make your trip a lot more enjoyable. Make sure your cell phone can be operated in other countries if you plan on going overseas. Some companies will allow this others won’t. Having this capability will give you the power to contact loved ones, make reservations for restaurants or anything else you want to do.
If you are going to a different country, try to learn some words. Not only will this be enlightening for yourself, but it will seriously aid you when you are in a different country when trying to communicate with natives of the country. Even if you mumble and pronounce horribly, a deep amount of respect is showed when you attempt to speak their language. No one likes a tourist too lazy to learn a couple of words and seeking out help using their native language. Another piece of advice that applies to the previous is to learn some customs and traditions of the country or place you’re going to. Learn what kind of attire is expected.
Bring some things that will keep you entertained. Although electronics are a great idea, in many foreign countries you will need a converter and an adapter in order to use your electronic devices. An adapter will adapt the type of plug and converter will convert the energy. Many people make the huge mistake of skipping this step. This is vital in order for any electronic usage when bringing gadgets with you to foreign places.
