There is almost universal agreement that the Wii is the best console for children’s game among the three 7th generation consoles. While it may be the best, you can still find good games for children on the PS3 and XBOX 360. If you own a PS3 and would like to buy some child friendly games, they aren’t too hard to find. The following are the best games for children on the PS3.
LittleBigPlanet – Imagine a Mario game that stars a playful sack puppet rather than an overweight plumber with a four word vocabulary. LittleBigPlanet is that and more. The game ranges from amazingly simple to extraordinarily complex. The latter may sound hard for a child, but the game does an excellent job of introducing that complexity at a methodical pace and teaching you exactly how to handle it. It is practically a learning tool for children and platform games. Combine that with rich, colorful backgrounds and a complete lack of violence and you have the perfect game for children.
Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes – If your kid loved The Lego Movie, this game is the perfect treat. Lego Batman translates that same type of humor into nearly the entire cast of the DC Universe. Like other Lego games, the controls are quite simple and the game is relatively violence free. Kids love to pretend to be superheroes and this game gives them the chance to experience that first hand in a safe environment.
Skylanders Swap Force – First, a warning to parents: This is not a cheap game. You can’t simply buy the game. You need to purchase the many, many peripherals as well, including a whole of host of miniatures. But assuming you are looking to make a big investment, possibly to entertain many children with one purchase, this is an incredibly fun game. The game is designed with children in mind, so while it is partially an adventure game and partially a role playing game, even young children will be up to the challenge. The real thrill is how the game incorporates miniatures into the game play. This adds a nearly impossible to define interactive quality to the game. Be warned, you might end up as addicted as your children.
Rayman Origins – This game does have moderate violence, but it is low enough to be rated E. Stylized cartoon graphics and a complete lack of blood depict this violence more similarly to Saturday morning Looney Tunes cartoons than anything else. In terms of game play, Rayman Origins is a side scrolling platform game that is rather easy. The real selling point, beyond the entertaining characters, is that it allows up to four players to play at once and anyone can join or drop out at a moment’s notice, which is particularly good for children, who tend to be easily distracted. In fact, most kids will probably find it a little more up their alley than the average Mario game.
