Dive bars can be really great and have a true local feel. Here are four of the best dive bars located in El Dorado County, California.
1. Slingshots – Cameron Park.
Slingshots is located at 3300 Coach Lane in Cameron Park. This “dive bar” is located in an old popular tourist spot known as “Sam’s Town.” This used to be the premier stop for traveler’s usually heading their way toward Tahoe. All of the buildings look like the old West and you feel as if you are walking into an old time saloon when you visit Slingshots. This bar also has a pool table which can be fun to play. For more information about Slingshots call 530-676-9915.
2. Poor Red’s Bar-B-Q – El Dorado.
Poor Red’s Bar-B-Q is located in the town of El Dorado at 6221 Pleasant Valley Road. This “dive bar” is located in a very old part of the town and it’s very easy to drive right past it. It has a rustic feel inside and out. Poor Red’s is locally famous for the food and their house drink known as the “Cadillac”. It’s a bit of a drive from Highway 50 but if you are looking for barbeque and a strong drink to wash it down this is the place to go. For more information about Poor Red’s call 530-622-2901.
3. Black Sheep Casino – Cameron Park.
Black Sheep Casino is really a hole-in-the-wall. Casino’s aren’t technically allowed in California but this isn’t your regular casino. It’s mainly just an extensive bar that has a poker room. Tournaments are regularly held here and besides Red Hawk this is the only place to gamble in El Dorado County. It’s located across the street from the Cameron Park Airport, an airport that’s designed just for smaller personal private planes. The address is 3181 Cameron Park Drive and be out on the lookout for it as it’s in a strip mall and not too noticeable from the street. For more information about Black Sheep Casino call 530-676-4251.
4. The Snooty Frog – Cameron Park.
The Snooty Frog maybe shouldn’t be on this list because it’s not really considered to be a “dive bar” but it’s one of Cameron Park’s popular local bars and eating places. Just the name itself is a reason to visit. It’s located in the same area as Slingshots which makes for a curious location. The website for The Snooty Frog boasts that they consider the place to be more of an upscale place. It is a restaurant and bar that opens at 4 pm Monday through Saturday.
